I have lived in florida for 15 years, 7.5 on the west coast and7.5 on the east coast in Palm Beach County. Where I lived on the west coast sinkholes are a major factor and insurance for them is either so high with huge deductables, up to 30 %, or not available at all. Don't take this problem lightly. When I sold my house on the west coast 8 years ago it was fine, no one had heard of sinkholes in the community in which I lived. Back in November I found out that the community had a serious sinkhole problem and the house I used to live in had developed 2 sinkholes. They were repairable but the cost was astronomical. Fortunately the people living there now had coverage or else the repairs would have cost them $200,000 out of pocket. Will they be able to get sinkhole insurance again when their policy comes up for renewal? Unlikely.

The important thing here is that the entire state of Florida is prone to this problem and not having that problem now does not ean you can't wake up to it tomorrow morning.

Be cautious because if you are an average person the cost of repairing sinkhole damage can be dexastating.
