Ha. Yes, I was curious about where others came from, and figured I'd post about it there. Well, it has been a bit of a failure, so I might as well post it here:

The only other board I visit, aside from this one, is city-data. While living, and desperately trying to leave Florida 2 years ago, I found this huge board dedicated to cities/towns/states. Ever since, I've been obsessed with learning about others backgrounds; where they grew up, how that particular area shaped them into who they are as adults, etc.

For instance, I grew up in the northwestern area of Ohio. My house was surrounded by fields of corn and wheat. To be specific to this board, it was in Risingsun which is only a 15 minute drive to Bowling Green. An exciting day or weekend involved going to Toledo (an hour north) to go shopping at the mall, or chilling at my Aunt's house on the east side (across the street from an oil refinery that would stink up her house every mid-afternoon).

Toledo:

Oil refinery across from her house:

This **** was actually special to me as a child.

What did I have to compare it to?

That was my elementary school... biggest attraction in the town of Risingsun where I lived (2 miles outside of) for 18 years!

I left that ****. After 6 years in a mid-sized Ohio city (Columbus), 2 years in a horrible Floridian beach town (Palm Bay), and now 2 years in D.C., I have come to appreciate where I'm from. I wouldn't go back - in fact, I'd probably start up a career in Moderator cut: mod cut to avoid ever going back to Ohio, but I grew up with some good values. Not conservative, by any stretch, but I knew how to treat people with respect, and still do (though sometimes I fail miserably).

I love that I grew up in the countryside, and that I have a midwestern attitude. No matter where I move to, it'll always be apart of me.

Where'd you guys grow up?

However, I view NWO as a great place to raise a child....

Born and grew up in Cincinnati. Lived in Florida for 6 years. Came back to Cincinnati (not my choice!) and I can't wait to get out of this city. Never liked it here.

Born and raised in Wooster, Ohio (which, while being a bit boring, is still a great place to grow up). I've lived in Kent, Ohio for the past 6 years while getting my BS and MS, and it's an incredible place to live (although truth be told, I live closer to Stow, Ohio than Kent, so I guess what I really mean is that Stow, Ohio is an amazing place to live)...soooo sad to be moving to PA at the end of this week!!! I'm going to miss Ohio!!!

I lived in Sabina till the age of 14 and then the family moved here to Bradenton, Florida and I have been here since. (I'm 51 now). I did like living in Sabina. Liked the town. Missed it for years and years. But now---- don't think I could handle the snow anymore. lol
