Akin's Natural Foods is based in Tulsa, there's that Natural Grocer chain and another chain out of Kansas called Green Acres in Jenks. Even Wal-Mart keeps growing, now there's a super center being built in Catoosa across the street from the Hard Rock. There's another new chain in town from Arkansas called Harps. Food Pyramid had better really be on top of their game here or they are gone.
Food Pyramid goes out in Tulsa. They are selling three stores to Reasor’s and closing two. Food Pyramid will keep the store in Bartlesville and other small town locations outside of the Tulsa area. Reasor’s is growing to 20 stores.

Maybe there is some good news for Oklahoma City in this. Here's a quote from the Tulsa World:
Quote:
An unnamed national tenant is considering Food Pyramid’s other sites at 4818 East 80th Street South, 7990 East 51st Street, and the closed building at 10122 South Memorial Drive.

Sounds like a national grocery store chain is looking at coming into Oklahoma.

If so, my vote goes to Aldi. Any grocery store that can under-cut Corporate Bully Walmart gets my business.

There's an Aldi on Penn at Memorial. I've been there once. I wasn't impressed, but I guess I was looking for some specific things and they didn't have them. I didn't realize that they didn't care name brands. I felt like I was shopping in a convenience store. I ended up just leaving without buying anything. Never went back.

Aldi does have lower prices on many items largely because they don't carry name brands. The brands they carry all seem to be Aldi's store brands. The stores are small. Selection is limited. They charge you for bags or you can bring your own or pick up empty boxes from the displays as you go around. Many products are in boxes like at a warehouse club or something. And finally, don't forget to bring a quarter to release the shopping cart. It's nowhere near an upscale shopping experience, but it's possible to save money there. We stopped visiting the local Aldi so much when we started focusing on using coupons. Most coupons are from name brand companies, so they wouldn't be of any use at Aldi. Even when we went to Aldi, it wasn't the only grocery store we used. They don't have everything you might want.
