Seems like this thread strayed off all relevance to the original topic after about post #233. So, there have been about 20 posts getting further and further away from "Why are there no quality grocery stores in OKC?"

Indeed it was off topic. In reality, the question has been answered and the problem is getting solved as Oklahoma City's demographics transform. The appropriate question now is "why were there no quality grocery stores in OKC?"

Please get back on topic. the thread is about OKC not Texas or any other state. It is against the ToS to hijack a thread. Please report bad posts.

I agree OKC doesn't have the worst but not the best grocery stores either. Homeland a little pricey. I am all about good produce for low prices. Cao Nguyen is high priced and dirty but I go there for some variety. The nicest one is probably the new Crest on SW 104. Buy for less on southside 29th st is 100% authentic with the pigeons out front exactly like the old farmers market in Ciudad Juarez. Love that they sell boots inside the grocery store. There was an international market in Memphis that had the whole pigs in the deep freezer and sold car kits in the front if you wanted ground effects on your car. Florida, VA, and TX seemed to have some nicer stores like Winn Dixie and Giant, and also some nasty ones like Food Lion that are small and convenient. The best grocery store is in DFW area is Super H mart in my opinion. Good vegetables, live lobster $8 per pound.

I think OKC has some great grocery stores. My favorites in this order:

1. Whole Foods on 6001 N. Western. Pricey but great selection and seafood options abound
2. Sprouts; NW 63rd and May .. a cheaper, smaller version of Whole Foods.
3. Buy For Less on Northwest Expressway near Lake Hefner Parkway.. great selections, watch for sales.
4. Uptown Grocery, at Kelly&Covell in Edmond. Huge store with great selections. Watch for sales as well.

I hear that Fresh Market is scouting the area for a location in OKC. If they put a store in.. that could give Whole Foods some good competition.

What would a "quality" grocery store have in stock that isn't in the current stores? (Not talking about alcohol products.)

They stock the same stuff that Crest has. However, at Whole Foods you get the privilige of paying more for it. Then you'll be the envy of all your neighbors when they find out you shop at the rich peoples store. I've been to Whole Foods twice. I saved the bags they use so I can put my purchases from WalMart in them. It turns a lot of heads over at the condo when I get out of the car carrying Whole Foods grocery sacks.

That's what I thought. When I was in London and went to Harrods, the food court was really fancy and expensive. I figure some people want to say that's where they shop. (Not Harrods... a "quality" store.) For me, I don't have a problem with Walmart.

I like Whole Foods for their salad bar.. top rate IMO. Uptown in Edmond has the best deli in the area hands down, and a close second, Buy For Less on NW Expwy and Portland.

Dont forget William's Grocery in Piedmont. They have real bag boys that'll take your groceries out to your car for you. You can even give them a tip, they kinda expect it, and that'll really make you feel like you're shopping uptown!!!
