I agree with a number of their choices of ugly cars, especially the one at number one, the BMW 5 Series GT.
Has it ruined their image?
I don't think so, and neither has this four door 500 ruined Fiat's, especially as it doesn't even exist!
Agreed, I think that Fiat will be just fine, their styling has always been quirky. This is part of their charm. I think with a few styling tweaks for 2015 and this car has very good potential. Everyone who owns one loves how it handles and the drive quality. There's are some mechanical issues it seems they have to work out, but I could see this being a success at some point.
...that doesn't exist. Seriously, you're going to tell the OP what to post about and what not to post about? Though I don't agree with his viewpoint, that's a bit rich.
He posted a picture of a Fiat 500 wagon... not the 500L. Whether it's a concept or a production car, that's the vehicle he posted about.
I like it. I just recently bought a two door Fiat but I really liked the four door as well. I don't really think they're ugly, but I guess it's just personal opinion.
The FIAT is based on the successful 1950s design. I think it look very nice and they have done a superb job at the retro design - as was done with the Mini. It appeals to women a lot. That cars is NOT ugly.
Cars.com customer reviews has Fiat 500L as a 4.7 out of 5. Everyone raves about how fun the car is to drive. My question is, image doesn't seem to matter with the owners of this vehicle, they love it for it's "fun to drive" characteristics. Has this car become more about function and less about image?
It hasn't "become" anything. It has been about function from the minute it was conceived.
Also, something you still haven't acknowledged - you get that the car that you posted in the OP does not exist, right?
Here's some more professional opinions for you, not fact... Highly subjective.
With no universal standards for beauty anyone's opinion is just an opinion. However, yes, I tend to listen to C&D more than an average Joe on C-D. And no, their opinion doesn't matter to me any more than yours. Because, again, it's an opinion. That I happen to not agree with. But I'm not on C-D posting, saying that the FIAT is the best-looking thing to happen to the automotive world.
And as far as ruining its (correct way to spell the word) image - I don't think FIAT ever had an image of designing the best-looking cars in the world. Like I said, they've got Ferrari for that.
