Saw one on the road yesterday. Wife never heard of it. It was voted the Motor Trend Truck of the Year. Was surprised by the vehicle’s weight of around 7,000 lbs.
These are CCS chargers capable of over 200 kW (would be interesting to know how future-proofed they are) in three sites. Two in California and one in Colorado. These are meant to be placed near interstates and "adventure" parts of the US such as near or maybe even in national parks. As the Rivian vehicles use CCS, it would seem this would be a good idea since Electrify America among others have the more common use cases covered. They were at some point targeting 3500 chargers in 600 locations by the end of next year, but let's see if they can get even half of that which would be a pretty large feat in and of itself.
Rivian's R1T has now run the gauntlet of IIHS safety (crash) tests, and it passed them all with flying colors, easily earning the "Top Safety Pick+" rating. Few vehicles get the best possible score on all tests.
At just over 10K units produced in Q4 and an increase of ~2.6K from the previous quarter, it's looking possible that Rivian will get past 50K units for 2023.
SUVs are already available, but only in the large pack, four-motor configuration. I don't own and haven't tested any of the vehicles, but the reviews seem pretty stellar and the vehicle appears to hit its range pretty well.
I see the electric delivery vehicles around the neighborhood quite a bit these days. I love the low noise compared to the gas (are some diesel?) trucks that seem to have been engineered to be as noisy as possible. In-city delivery trucks are pretty much the perfect EV application.
