Oh my gosh do I remember those perms. Wasn't the one for kids called Tonette, or an I wrong? Anyway the smell was terrible, not that perms smell good anyway. I have naturally curly hair and my sister has hair that is straight as a board. My mom would give each of us a perm, my hair turned into an afro and I would cry and cry and my sister would have no curl and she too would be crying. Funny.
Oh, and bobby pins. My mom would twist her hair in a circle and criss-cross bobby pins to hold it, and that is how she curled her hair.
Women would also often wear hair nets on their heads.
Pink foam curlers. A bouffant bonnet worn at night to protect the hairdo. (Never worked for me.) Shower caps to keep your hair from getting wet. Curved combs to hold your hair out of your face. "Brush your hair 100 strokes every day." (That was when all hairbrushes were made from stiff boar hair or something similar.)
There are places on the internet where one can still purchase those fragrances that were popular several decades past but are not sold in stores anymore. And those old distinctive perfume bottles are highly collectible. I remember my first bottle of Chanel #5 and the little bottle it came in. I was about 13 and I got it for Christmas.
I remember before the invention of pantyhose there were nylons and you had a belt thing around your waist you clipped the nylons on. I remember one of them now and then popping off.
I remember when camcorders first came out, they were huge. They were so expensive to buy that we would rent one for special occasions.
Remember those awful swimming caps, the ones that were rubber and left marks on your face they were so tight (and uncomfortable)?
I forgot about those! It was the thing to do but I sure was delighted with the invention of panty hose!
