...when you were stopped at a traffic light and the stranger's car radio next to you was playing a great song, and you could shout out "what station is that?", and, they would actually tell you, as well!

Then, personalized music collections in the form of Compact Discs and the iPod helped put an end to that form of positive stranger-to-stranger interaction!

Automotive air conditioning helped to put an end to that. Plus they no longer play the music I liked when I was growing up. Neither Elvis nor ABBA are ever going to release a new album.

And stay off my lawn.

When you could leave your car and house unlocked...and not worry about it.

When I, ages 10+ girl, could leave home on my bike and be gone until dusk and no one worried over it.

When I could leave my purse in the bathroom with other purses, at the community center, and not worry about it.

When I could walk home in the dark from my friend's house and have no concern about it.

On and on...

You forgot a Maggie.. walking into your home and borrowing a cup of sugar and leaving a note for you while you were at work.... then the next day dropping off a dozen cookies for a thank you..

A Maggie? Know what you mean but don't recognize the term...

I realize now my posts were negative....sorry...just miss those carefree days. There are plenty of fun things to remember!

Not negative !!! It's called reminiscing... back when people cared about others.. and had conversations with others on the porch over a glass of lemonade on a cool summer eve.. as the kids caught fire flies..

When earning 3.25/hr. and newly married with a child on the way, we felt so rich we went and bought a new car, took vacations and generally bought whatever we wanted. All the needs were covered.
