Really? I think I saw that one, but don't remember that part. That was in the 1990s?

The phrase "under God" was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance on June 14, 1954, by a Joint Resolution of Congress amending § 4 of the Flag Code enacted in 1942.[28]

Don't know if there are any rubber Obama masks around but can well imagine the cries of "Racist!!" to anyone who dared to wear one. The MO professional rodeo clown, Tuffy Gessling, was given a lifetime ban in MO for wearing one as part of his act several years ago. To perform as a rodeo clown today he must go out-of-state.
