And speaking of gift wrapping..........as I wrap a few Christmas presents this morning I recall the long ago days when gift wrapping paper was STURDY and THICK and didn't rip apart easily as it does today.

I'm not as old as everyone here but I did have that "I'm so old moment" when my great-nephew saw my father's manual Royal typewriter and asked me what it was and how to use it.

But I'll try my best. I'm so old, I remember:

1. Stereos being in large wooden furniture bodies
2. TVs also coming in wooden cabinetry
3. Stereo speakers being huge
4. Wrestlemania V!!!
5. When these cartoon characters were still household names and very much a part of mainstream culture--Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Tom and Jerry, etc.
6. When comic strips were popular enough to launch TV shows and movies and also create controversy and public debate (like Doonesbury)
7. When TV stations signed off with the national anthem...or even signed off at all.
8. When stations had technical issues and put up the Please Stand By sign
9. When roller rinks were popular
10. Needing to adjust the TV set manually
11. Needing to change the TV stations manually
12. Everything getting completely shut down during the holidays and everyone being in their Sunday best going to church
13. WordPerfect, Windows 3.0, programming in DOS, floppy disks
14. When magicians were popular
15. When ventriloquists were popular
16. When impressionists were popular

Oooh the good ole days. Yes snow forts and the risky business we kids would get into.

I remember when nothing would be open on a Sunday, and when kids could be sent to the store to pick up cigarettes for their parents.

My how times have changed.

I'm pretty sure these lasted well into the 90s. Macy's still had a gift wrapping department when I worked there 20 years ago.

The wolf howl brings back memories of listening to Wolfman Jack in SoCal when he transmitted his show from Mexico.

Here's a video from his brief stint in NY. https://youtu.be/KtNa9v9d5v4

The movie clip from American Graffiti is at this site. Howlin' at the Moon with the Wolfman | Legacy.com
