I'm sorry but this is not "incomprehensible and utterly shocking" - ObL declared war on us over 13 years ago and we have been repeatedly warned that this will happen. For the last few weeks there have been indications that the events of the last two days were quite possibly going to occur.

Canada is our ally and close friends, our northern family. An attack on Canada is an attack on the United States as far as I am concerned. I am truly sorry that this has happened. Stand tall and stand strong Canada the vast majority of America supports you.
Fear not. As we speak, a small Syrian city of Kurds named Kobane has been fending-off ISIS for over a month. Hundreds of ISIS terrorists are dead. It is becoming their "Stalingrad."
They're being bombed by the dozen each day. They cannot take Baghdad and the whole world is begining to unite against them. RIP Cirillo. Let's honor him by hunting down every last one of these cells/supporters...
He basically got to the end of his rope. He was a career common criminal. He was arrested for drugs and robbery. He was probably running out of options for making a living and decided to become a mercenary for ISIS by recently converting and found that avenue blocked by the authorities.
This guy could have killed more had he wanted to. First, the other soldier who went to help his comrade. The people visiting the memorial. One construction worker said that he pointed his gun at him but didn't fire. The driver of the car he hijacked. According to NDP Press Attache Greta Levy, she and a few others were clearly seen by him, but did nothing. What was he expecting when he got into the building - to be able to walk around until he finds Harper? (Can't wait to find out what the reason his for why he even made it in the doors...)
Right. But again, I think we should leave it out of the conversation until we know for sure. These kinds of speculations tend to blow sky-high and turn nasty real fast.
Well it did not take long for his muslim background to be exposed. It is sad that one could simply assume/guess that he was a muslim, then turn out to be right. So many of these cases turn out with the muslim religion being involved that most of us instantly look to the middle east and Islam as being involved in acts of terror. I am not sure the west and the muslim world will ever really be at peace with each other. With each act of brutality we westerners become more hardened toward them. It is a terrible negative feedback loop, they attack and we become angry. We respond against them, anger more of them. More terrorist develop from our military response. More acts of terror against the west are carried out, then predictably we respond again, on and on and on. There really is no way to stop it, and I am not suggesting we should not respond. In fact we have to, or it will go only get worse as they will see us as weak.
