I personally think it is a good idea. But how many guys (or girls for that matter) would walk out the door without taking one, especially if around their friends? Never knew some people think prom first time sex is a right of passage. Just think of how much pressure this attitude can put on a teen.
Highly inappropriate. It looks as though the school is promoting sexual activity at prom.
Aren't there dispensers in the bathroom for condoms?
this is the same argument used to discourage sex education in schools--that it will promote activity.
Shouldn't proper tools be available to protect our teens--that is if you believe in sex education. I do and I don't see how you can have one without the other.

Kids planning on sex after the prom has been around since I was teen. Looks like that hasn't changed much. I don't see that having condoms available does anything other than possibly prevent a few unwanted pregnancies or some STD's.
I do hope they are discreet about the distribution so that kids who need them won't be too embarrassed to take them.
The idea of having sex after prom has been around a long time; it's definitely not a recent invention. I don't know statistics on how many teens actually have sex on prom night but it makes logical sense to have condoms available.
I don't have an issue with high schools making condoms available to students in general, but to do it specifically on prom night is awful. That introduces a needless pressure on the kids of both sexes. It screams "we expect you to do this, now, be safe".
I do not think it is a big deal, especially if you read the article and see how this is a particularly at risk group of kids.
I chaperoned our version of prom about three years ago and had bag check duty. So one senior unzips his backpack for me to check and out pops 1 pack of 36 condoms. Full. We both look at the condoms on the floor, at each other, and I said "optimistic aren't you?". Probably a bit inappropriate.
Sure, pass out tampons, toilet paper, how 'bout some attends for the prom "chaperones"
Can't we have anything "nice" anymore? I actually spent last Sunday teaching my kids ( 14 & 15), how to eat with a formal placesetting---which fork, spoon, etc to use. We don't eat "formal" at home, and at restaurants its either plastic or rolled up in a napkin. I didn't want them to feel intimidated if presented with a formal place setting. Guess instead we should all play how to put on the condom, how to insert the vaginal ring, etc.
Look, there's a time and place for everything. A time to learn how to put on the condom, and a time to learn how to dress up and enjoy a party.
Guess I'm just not a good parent---teach them how to play with their butts instead of how to eat at a formal dinner---oh, guess I should teach them how to do oral sex, eat that!
