Many kids this age like loose clothing....it's just comfy for how much they move and play even if they don't have sensory issues (which are not uncommon as well). Buy larger sizes....even if you think it looks too big...if kiddo is comfy, it's better for everyone.

Too true.

Too very true.

The OP said that she has the issue with ALL clothes, not just undies.

Well let's hear back from the op. Maybe it's a big issue. Maybe mild. You can work with sensory preferences without ot.

I agree - sensory issue. Just get her some bigger clothes. I am 41 and still HATE tight clothes. Can't wear them. Layers...nope. I also hate certain fabrics. Elastic pants are my best friend.

Not sure what to do?

Pray that this condition doesn't change until after she turns 18.

My 7 year old is like this. Wanted "skinny jeans" vs the usual bootcut I buy; so I buy them, she hates them, they're too tight on her ankles and she won't wear them. Underwear too; they tend to really cut into her thighs. This is a new phase for her; she all of a sudden has an opinion of what she will/will not wear. Could it be a sensory issue? Yes, my son has that going on. But if this is the only sensory thing she's dealing with, I wouldn't worry about it and just try to accommodate her preferences for how things fit.

Another vote for sensory issues. Have you tried those tiny bike shorts they sell in Target for wearing under skirts?

At the end of the day, if she's wearing trousers or long enough shorts then undies aren't strictly necessary (no-one tell my kids I said that). You could also experiment with brands, Hanna Andersen undies are very soft.

Sensory, definitely. You just have to keep experimenting.

My youngest has rejected many many many pairs of underwear over the years. She has NEVER worn a turtle neck. Screamed like a banshee when I tried to put one on her. She's 14 now and wears her tops baggy and loose.

I'm 47 and I wear my underwear inside out because the seams bother me. there are very few tags left in my clothes.

Don't make it overcomplicated. She might just be growing and you might be shrinking the clothes. I'm an adult and often have clothes that are comfortable become too tight after a washing & drying.
