Anyone every deal with this? I have a 6 year old that is constantly complaining about her clothes being too tight. To the point that almost every time she puts on a pair of underwear or pants she stretches them and if that doesn't work she just takes them off. She says things like the "Dryer shrinks everything". I'm not sure if this is a sensory thing or something mental where she'll just get through it.

She had a new pack of underwear and no issues. Wash the pair once and it was like (to her) it was too small.

Not sure what to do?

Sensory thing. Buy bigger underwear.

Does she have other sensory preferences?

Can you just buy bigger underwear and pre wash them before you give them to her? I heard unwashed clothes have all sorts of terrible chemicals so I usually predawn anyways

Check the dryer settings (every machine is different, but you should be able to monitor how hot or how long the dryer runs). Maybe they are shrinking because you're running it too long or too hot.

When your daughter takes off her jeans and underpants, can you see red marks and "dents" in her skin from the elastic? If so, then "honey, you shrunk the clothes"!

Yes. My niece was like this and still is (at 10) to an extent. For the longest time she would only wear one dress and underwear that were far too large for her. Her parents needed to get her into therapy for sensory problems but instead let her do whatever she wanted. You don't have to get larger clothes if you get the sensory issue treated.

My kid has sensory preferences and I have talked to many OTs. Kids grow out of them. I did. But I still have some. If undies are the only issue, OT is a little over the top

My sister had the same sensory issue as a kid, back when we just called it being picky. She only had one pair of underpants that she would wear, even others of the same brand and size were not acceptable to her.

There are different styles of kids underpants, I would just buy a couple of different kinds and see if there's one style that she's more comfortable with. One of my kids would only wear boy shorts because she couldn't stand elastic around the legs. I'm guessing it's something like the elastic being scratchy for your daughter's skin, and if you find a style with covered elastic or the seamless kind, that might work better.

Always wash the underpants before you give them to your daughter, the chemicals aren't good for her and can cause a rash.

Count your blessings, wait till she's a teen and she thinks her cloths aren't tight enough.

OP, does she show any other signs of sensory avoidance?
