While it's not in the agreed upon area, it wouldn't obliterate a view, & if it wouldn't ruin a neighborhood, if it was cleared, so what, as long as it's west of Broad.

There's also the abandoned Inquirer Building (increasingly turning into an eyesore and weirdly has not been tagged with graffiti since it's obviously empty) and the adjacent parking lot at 15th/16th Sts. Blatstein hasn't said anything, publically, about it for at least a year.
The city should raise taxes through the roof on these vacant lots. Developers like Blatstein either need to do something or sell them to someone who will. And I don't care about a building being tall. I would just love to see the existing lots serve a better purpose than surface parking.

The Inquirer building would make fabulous apartments, condos, a site for small shops, or a combination.

There's actuallly not much to clear now on Callowhill west of Broad to 22nd St. Or north of it all the way to at least Poplar .
Years ago, you may remember this, there was an effort to name the area just south of Spring Garden St., Franklintown

There's really only what I mentioned: the empty lot on the NW corner of 18th an Callowhill and the parking lot adjacent to the Inquirer Bldg.

No kidding. However Blatstein was positive he'd get the second casino license. He didn't. There seems to be no plan
B and it's just sitting there. The ground floor windows used to be covered but now, I believe, they aren't. Security? Who knows.

Surprised no one posted this yet.. Updated renderings of 1911 Walnut. Building will shrink from 55 to 47 stories with a less glassy façade, and the buildings on Sansom will be preserved.

Call me crazy, but would the additional 8 stories really have that much of an impact on peoples lives? I feel like the neighbors are just trying to pound their chest to prove they still have the power to alter a project.

I am also a fan of the glassier façade (initial renderings), I am pleasantly surprised with the new renderings though.

And I am hoping for an Equinox as the main retail tenant.

Renderings look fine. If I hadn't seen the old renderings, I might have been a bit more wowed. I'm just glad they didn't turn it into some Barclay clone. 47 stories still represents a significant addition to the neighborhood. Who knows? They may have recalculated the market. With One Riverside, 500 Walnut and the SLS, there is a large inventory of lux condos in the pipeline.

Update: The new tower got front page coverage in today's Inky. Here's their take: http://www.philly.com/philly/busines...ment-site.html

SLS I think is a dud at this point/will be nothing like the original plan from a few years back.

And yes, I still am pleased with the design and tower.

Yeah, I have little confidence in SLS. It has sat so long that at the very least the design will probably change to be less impressive.
