Not many, including our politicians whom are mostly lawyers, but don't know that we are a Representative, Constitutional Republic, not a pure Democracy. And yes, our markets are highly regulated.

People have always been offended by this stuff. Thanks to technology, you actually have to hear what they say now.

Philly is taking down its statue of Frank Rizzo while DC is erecting one of Marion Berry...lol.

I wouldn't have voted for him were I living here at the time, and I didn't in 1987, when I quipped that W. Wilson Goode Sr. and Frank Rizzo were both running against the only person they could possibly beat.

But I did give him credit where I thought credit was due upthread.

This wasn't the same as removing statues of Confederate generals. I would have been just fine leaving it in front of the Municipal Services Building (across from City Hall). I'm just fine with it being moved too. The only thing I would have objected to is its being removed completely.

The city was safe under Rizzo.
I don't know where you did your research but Everyone loved him.

If everyone loved him, how come he:
--couldn't get that change to the City Charter through?
--was the first mayor of Philadelphia to have a recall campaign launched against him - and the campaign gathered enough signatures to put the question on the ballot? (A court ruled the Charter prohibited such a question.)
--lost to Wilson Goode in 1987, after MOVE II, fer Chrissakes?

I stand by my previous characterization of Rizzo.

Agreed. And just to be clear, I don't care about him or his statue one way or another. I appreciate the insight into him as a man in this thread. I just don't think the argument is about him, but more about what our society is distracted with. The dialog is very concerning. It's like the folks who can't get away from "liberal" vs. "conservative" rhetoric and focus on what makes sense. Rizzo is as relevant to the conversation as George Washington IMO.

Did you miss the posts upthread about the effort to recall him which almost succeeded?
And, it's nonsense to infer that everyone loved him.
