I'm still looking forward to a Chiefs-Eagles matchup in Super Bowl LVII (assuming the Chiefs make it past Buffalo, no longer a sure thing), but I suspect that there will be a lot of long faces at Big Charlie's afterward.

The Eagles vs Andy Reid would be a wild Super Bowl.

That would make for great storylines. My dream matchup would be Dolphins Eagles. Two former Alabama QBs battling it out. Exciting high-tempo offenses similar to SB 52!

Actually, something tells me there would be people rooting for both teams simultaneously all over the area. Glad for the Iggles if they win, glad for Reid if the Chiefs do.

But Big Charlie's will probably be the only place in the entire region where the cheers will be louder if the Chiefs win.

I doubt it. People in Philly were happy for Reid when he won, but only because the Eagles had won by then already. If Reid gets multiple before the Eagles, the Philly fans are not going to celebrate that.

Uh, no... absolutely zero Philadelphians will be routing for KC in any way, shape or manner.

One thing at a time though - we have a long way to go to get to the SB.

Not true.

They're not all transplants at Big Charlie's.

Most, like the bar's original owner and his son, who owns it now; he got the bike he wanted when the Chiefs won the fourth and last "AFL-NFL Championship Game" in 1971 — the game that made Big Charlie a Chiefs fan and the bar a landmark* — are locals, though I did manage to find a guy who had moved here from KC to take a job with a pharma firm in suburban Wilmington and bought a house in the neighborhood specifically to be close to this bar when I wrote about it for the readers of 435 (now Kansas City, thank God**) magazine back in 2013.

I have some knowledge of this from having gone there to take in Supe LIV. You don't get into Big Charlie's inner sanctum on game days unless you can prove you bleed red and gold, and I doubt that policy will be suspended should the Eagles and Chiefs end up meeting each other in Supe LVII.

*The bar has two rooms; I've seen both because I went there on a summer weekday afternoon and told the bartender where I was from. He then showed me the inner sanctum, whose contents include a scale model of Arrowhead Stadium and footballs signed by both of the Eagles coaches who went on to coach the Chiefs, Dick Vermeil being the first. The bar anyone can walk into on a game day looks like a typical SouFilly corner bar, with one exception: there's an Emmy in the middle of the liquor bottles behind the bar. NFL Films won the statuette for its documentary about the place.

**Why "thank God"? Whoever heard of a city magazine named for the beltway around it?

Yes, I'm familiar with Big Charlie's. It's actually not far from where I live, and I've popped in there several times. Not sure exactly what you mean by "you don't get in there unless you bleed gold and red." That has not been my experience, but, whatevs. Regardless, you believe true hardcore Philadelphia fans are going to route for a team from Missouri because a former coach of the Eagles now coaches the team from Missouri and/or because there is a decent S. Philly bar that welcomes folks from Missouri? I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

Wait, do you write for a publication somewhere? That's news to me, I've never heard that stated before from you. You're usually so understated and humble. I'm glad you finally brought it up.

I wasn't referring to the front bar; I was referring to the back room, and then only on game days. Is that not the case? I had understood that the Chiefs shrine in the back was reserved for Chiefs fans on days when the team played, and that was what I said in my prior post. It seems to me to be closed at other times, but maybe if the Eagles make it into the Supe but the Chiefs don't, they might open it for the neighbors anyway. You tell me.

Or maybe this Philadelphia Inquirer reporter got it wrong in 2017, when the Eagles and Chiefs played in the regular season? According to the story, Eagles fans couldn't even get into the front bar for that game.

Hardcore fans? No, but you said "zero Philadephians." Sorry, but I'm taking you literally there.
