Me and my best friend (18 and 19) are planing on moving somewhere new and Arizona is on the top of the list.
We have lived in Minnesota our whole lives and want to get out of the cold and boring MN.

I am planning on going to a community college for a degree and my friend is going to finish college before we move.
What are the best areas that are reasonable?
I have grandparents that live in Mesa during the winter and I have visited a lot, It seems nice but is it a good area outside of the senior parks?
What is the typical rent for a 2 bedroom condo or townhouse?

What are the pros and cons of living in the Phoenix area?
Any other advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi, I have been looking to relocate to the Phoenix area also. It seems to me that Tempe or Mesa would work for you since there are areas that have lots of "kids" your age (I am a FEW years older so I am avoiding those areas in Tempe or Mesa lol.) Anyways, as you probably already know there is a variety of things to do in those areas. On my visit last month everyone we spoke with was very nice. You also might want to consider renting near the community college you will be attending. I have been using rent.com as it is easy to use, has multiple search perimeters, has many rental options and has an iPhone app.

I sure you will get lots of good advice from those that actually live there I bet your grandparents will be excited to have you near them. Best wishes in your journey.

I was born and raised in Phoenix. West Mesa which borders on Tempe, and Tempe where Arizona State University is would be good areas for you. Mesa Community College is near the Tempe Mesa border. Go farther east in Mesa and Gilbert and it tends to be conservative with a large LDS community and lots of retirees.

I have a sales job and work in Minnesota and South Dakota off and on about 1/2 the year. The downtown Tempe area would be more comparable to Uptown Minneapolis with suburban housing bordering it and much more liberal and fun.

I am moving from Minneapolis (Shakopee) to Phoenix April 1st. We are just tired of the MN weather. I am a bit older in my early 30's with a husbands and 2 kids, so I am looking at Goodyear in the west valley, but I hear Tempe is a great area for singles your age. I know there are tons of Midwesterners down in Phoenix and so far I have heard all good things from the ones I know. Good luck!
