Thanks again Arizona Mike! Sometimes I would hang the letters for the marquee, Movies changed twice per week (If I remember correctly). Sometimes the "bad guys" would pitch a stone or bottle at the marquee and whoever was up there hanging letters. Lucky us, they had bad aim!

Many of the Phoenix area theatres had a system where employees could get a free pass to other theatres. That was nice for dates. The pay, when I started, was $4.00 per night for about 4-5 hours work depending on how long the movies were.

The Rodeo looks like a cowgirl with a lariat?

When young, I thought it was Ursula Undress, ha. First time I saw her was in Dr. No.

Yup, I worked the same deal on dates - my Plitt pass got me into the El Camino a lot.

It seemed like people went to the movies a lot more in those days before cable and the Internet - I think I saw 3 or 4 movies a week in the theaters and that wasn't uncommon.

I like that Jay Silverheels got top billing in Arizona over the kid from "The Rifleman" for the second feature!

I think I actually saw "She" at the Rodeo when it came out - I remember watching it in a drive-in on the west side of town, so that might have been it. It was a departure for Hammer Films, best known for horror films, but it had their stock players of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee in it as well as the lovely Miss Andress.

Here's a shot of "El Peso Drive-In", a theater that showed Spanish-language movies. It was on the other side of the Acres Drive-in, and shared a screen - the Peso showed movies on the flip side of the Acres' screen, which always seemed very economical to me.

Default Music Stores

For those that have Yellow Pages, I'm looking for music store listings from 1983. I much appreciate anyone that can help out.

That might not be from a 1958 directory, roosevelt - it lists the "Phoenix Star Theater" (later the Celebrity Theater) which wasn't built until 1963...

I'm pretty sure the Cine Capri didn't have an earlier theater built on it - we went to the grand opening on 3/31/1966, with Charlton Heston present.

You are right, I was using a 1969 Telephone directory. Will have to post from 1958 soon, clear back to 1936.
