Something we all take for granted here. My favorite part is the location.

“Though Phoenix didn’t take the top spot in any single category (except how quickly you can drive to and from downtown), it was consistently among the best scorers in almost all categories, with excellent flight delay and flight cancellation scores, a convenient light rail, a high number of restaurants and bars for its level of passenger traffic and free Wi-Fi,” ThePointsGuy website said about what helped the airport’s ranking. “About the worst thing that could be said about Sky Harbor, apparently, is it could stand to add more lounges.”

Ranking the USA's 30 busiest airports: Phoenix No. 1

I think I'd say 1) consistently good flying weather (few delays); 2) location; 3) convenience and ease of moving about the terminals; 4) price and proximity of parking and other transit options; 5) enough space and shopping/dining options.

It's a very nice airport. Not a gorgeous or unique airport, necessarily, but an extremely functional one in a tremendous location.

"Voted" is misleading, since this data doesn't come from polling or surveys, but from researchers using various criteria to score and rank the 30 busiest airports.

Don't think they will go with colors for terminals, unlike light rail. Either they will stick with the numbers or they will go to "West" and "East".

I think that PHX is fairly efficient, however, traffic is not that high. The airport seems to be manageable for the amount of traffic it carries now, but not very scalable. If/whenever it has to be expanded, a lot of items for which it scores high now would probably take a hit.
Actually, the same can also be argued about the number two airport in this list (which I am also very familiar with).

Minimal airlines, good location, good weather, small airport... it BETTER score well. It has none of the headaches that major airports have to contend with.

You should read the survey it took into account much more than just that, public transit access and good options to name two. And it is the 10th busiest in the country so quit with the "not a major airport" nonsense.

It's the 17th busiest by aircraft movement in the world. I wouldn't say traffic isn't that high.
