Hello! We will be living in Gilbert in the next two weeks (coming from the east coast). Can anyone share with me some of your favorite locations to take beautiful sunset pics at?

Would love to see a mountain backdrop and the desert landscape within my photo vs the cityscape. Willing to travel about 30 min from Gilbert area if need be. I want to share this with my east coast friends/family. I've seen some beautiful pics on Google, but would like to take my own :-)

TIA

Straight up the 101. Exit Pima, take that north. Exit Happy Valley Road, take a right and follow it up to the McDowell Mts. Keep going until you hit Ranch Gate Road (follow signs for Toms Thumb Trailhead). There are homes there, but there are many areas to take photos that should be unobstructed. Just watch for rattlers (they are very prevalent up there) and you should be fine.

Don't be disappointed if there isn't a good sunset. You need clouds to have a good colorful sunset, and this time of year the clouds disappear until July, even though we've had a few straight days of clouds lately, along with rain!

A good place is a park (don't know what it's called) just off of AZ 85 on the south bank of the Gila River bed south of Buckeye. I shot a time lapse sunset there back in 2000 and it looked really good

There are some fantastic sunset views at the Sheraton Wild Horse. Should be within 30 minutes of most Gilbert addresses.

keep in mind that the best sunset shots require some patchy cloud cover over the western skies....not full overcast, of course, but very light and highly patchy clouds extending up a bit above the horizon result in that brilliant orange/red/pink we all like

Sunset Point. About 40 miles north of the valley on I-17. It is a scenic overlook great for sunsets, thus the name.

Drive to the top or hike to the top of south mountain and look west, I like the view from Dobbins or Burna Vista.

I shot my time lapse sunset with clear skies (no clouds at all), and I thought it looked good
