Both are desert cities. While Dubai is in the coast of Persian Gulf, Phoenix is a landlocked city with no body of water. While Dubai is the main financial hub of United Arab Emirates, Phoenix is just one of the many tier-2 cities of the the US. Dubai is an international city with so much more to offer while Phoenix does not have that vibe. Dubai has some of the iconic structures in the world and what Phoenix has are the cookie cutters suburban beige houses. Dubai is far more walkable city than Phoenix despite its longer months of hot summers.

You may think, Dubai is a wealthier city so I look at the financials, metro Phoenix GDP (or the whole Maricopa) is twice as much as Dubai ($200B vs $100B). The GDP per capita of Phoenix is significantly higher than Dubai ($44K vs $37K).

Is there a way for Phoenix to achieve that Dubai vibe?

Why on earth would Phoenix or the people who live there need, want, or care about getting a Dubai "vibe"?

It's a world-class city with amenities that we can barely even dream of. With that said, this premise is absurd.

Phoenix & Dubai have some things in common, and it's not only that they're desert cities. They both have roughly the same population with Dubai being a bit larger. Both also grew at phenomenal rates over the last 50 years or so. The main difference is: Dubai is much more of a global city with a strong international vibe. Phoenix struggles to be recognized even on a national level. Maybe Phoenix could use Dubai as as influence because from what I've seen, Dubai is a beautiful, world class city despite being in a hot sandy desert.

Can Phoenix get summer of that sweet oil money, rampant human rights violations and slave labor/indentured servitude?

Most of the thread in City vs City where Phoenix go up against another city, people are always complaining how bland and beige Phoenix is. We cannot change the landscape of Phoenix but we can change it's vibe. Dubai is perfect example to that.

doesn't Phoenix have lots of illegal immigrants for that slave labor & lot of people are retiring there so you get that wealthy retires inplace of sweet oil money.

Dubai is in different scale than Phoenix. But Phoenix is moving up in the world with in USA as a hub. It use to be flyover country.
