I would think you can find resources on internet to find work, housing, and such if you are a felon.

Arizona is increasingly becoming a fascist state making harsher penalties against victimless crimes. And interestingly, it's not just Republican state lawmakers doing this. Former governor Napalitano pushed for harsher penalties. Remember, I'm only talking about victimless crimes. I am for harsh penalties against murders, rapes, property theft, and such. But in these days of high unemployment, a lot of harmless people are let out of prison who cannot rent apartments or are barred from a lot of jobs.

I rent an apartment. I don't smoke marijuana, but I think a habitual dope smoker as a neighbor would be a much more peaceful neighbor than a binge drinker, provided the dope smoker does not DUI. Or a habitual "john." It is absolutely cruel to make drug usage or prostitution (provider/customer) crimes. Many developed nations do not criminalize these activities. How come we are still living in the Inquisition?

First off, I would not refer to yourself as an ex-con if you're looking for work, rather that you have a history of felony/ies.

From my experinece, you are going to have a lot of trouble, especially due to the amount of those without felonies looking for work. He might be able to find some under the table construction work, but other than that the options are very limited.

If he received a felony when he was 16, why wasn't it expunged when he turned 18?

We were told Az does not seal or expunge records.
The background check is a lie, it goes all the way back, not 7-10 years like it it meant to.
Thanx

Felonies are for life, not just 7-10 years. You can have records expunged when you turn 18, not sure if all felonies can or not though, I believe that is on a city-to-city basis.

Look up the company E4E they are a small staffing firm, and I met a lot of ex convicts there. I don't think they do a backround check, and pay starts around 11-12.50

I've just spotted this thread was started ages ago, but the most successful times I have known ex inmates get a job/s is by starting off in voluntary work, building up experience and references. Mind you this is in the UK I am thinking of, but might this not work in the States. Please don't throw back the ex inmates get benefits spiel in the UK, I am thinking of folk who had the support of a family member or good friend. Depends also on the past crime, but self employment is another avenue.
