People in Silicon valley are too busy with work to worry about showing off wealth in general. I don’t see it. Yes, there are more abundance of high end cars but it is not about showing off. Certain demographics like particular brands.

I've had 37 new cars in my life, ranging from Porsche to Mercedes, to Chevys to land cruisers..I'm not rich, and definitely not a show off, just have had a car sickness for many years, and working in the automotive industry for decades helped feed that..

Who cares what car someone drives..if your into cars, that's fine..if you view it as a "status symbol", that's another whole different issue..

Haha, not anymore. I am trying to find out who is still working in Silicon Valley.
The days where we burned the midnight oil starting a new venture are over.
The millennials largely don't have the passion or the constitution for hard work.
But they do like their Porsche SUVs.

p.s. on the OT, we moved into our first HOA gated commty, having never thought we would do such a thing. Thought HOAs would be far too restrictive on my lifestyle. But after decades of living in neighborhoods, even supposedly upscale areas, where neighbors would park jetski trailers on the street, or cars lining the streets, or houses painted strange colors... we now welcome the strict uniformity and power of an HOA to enforce the property standards. Can't believe i am saying that, but yeah, we do enjoy an HOA, even though ours lets all kinds of little stuff slip.

Agree 100%. I prefer to trade off every 4 years or so and buy new so I can be assured of always having a reliable car. Plus, I get the extended warranty/service plan that lasts for 60,000 miles so pretty much everything is covered ... including what few repairs I do have, as well as any general maintenance (oil changes, etc.). Getting a new car frequently isn't being a snob or showing off. In my case it can be very practical.

Plus the tax laws were so different back then, it made a lot of business sense to get new cars frequently, if they were used for business..its not like that anymore though..
