If you really don't understand the reason behind the uproar of Rodney King Beating, black or non-black you are highly delusional. I'll give you a quick history report:
At the time in California, as well as the rest of nation, police was still abusing and mistreating blacks in the poor neighborhoods. Tension was high, all the time. They (We) cried out to the world with no avail. Finally one day they caught these acts on camera, and the incident is now infamous. It doesn't end there, the trial came and 3 of the officers was acquitted on all charges and there was a hung jury on the 4th officer. Blacks were outraged as this have been going on in all of America, the tensions reached a boiling point and the riots took effect.
If you're a middle class white, you are most likely oblivious to the abuse and harassment of law enforcement, which is still felt to this day, in a more passive-aggressive manner.

Talk about a skewed perception of reality.
First off put yourself in the shoes of "thug" they don't do that because of what they see on tv. They do it because that's all they know or that's their only option. Trust me, I see this all the time and rather being in disgust and belittle them, I teach and educate them. It might not change their ways on day 1 but sooner or later something clicks. And yes the criminal justice system turns a blind-eye to the victim and tries to wipe our the life of accuser whether it's an extreme crime or a juvenile crime, with no sense of understanding at all.
I also read that you worked in a juvenile institution in the ministry. I was in one as a juvenile, and know that they mostly seek to give us a sense of help while bringing up our convictions and to constantly demean us. I'm speaking from experience, all in all the system and most of the american public either wants us to remain oppressed or don't understand why we choose to be that way
There is a good debate going on the Atlanta board about Michael Vick and the discussion quickly turned to race. Many non-blacks find it hard to understand the support that is given to high profile blacks like OJ and Michael Vick. This article is a good read even though I could never understand supporting someone because of something was done generations ago. I know must be because I am white. What are your thoughts?
And we have yet another "Why do Blacks.....?" thread to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday.
Why is it always the ones that have such a deep hatred of Black people that always want to know Who, What, Where Black people are doing, thinking, saying, etc?

I understand "why" they get into trouble more than you might want to believe. I agree with you.

I'm not sure whether you're speaking about the prison or the ministry giving hope and conviction -- while at the same time being demeaning.
I sure hope you were speaking about the prison...
I worked with the group for about a year. I have a pretty good understanding of what the prison system is like -- both for the juveniles and the prison workers.
Like you, I had life experience that gave me insight into the kind of problems facing "at risk youth".
You'd probably be surprised at how much I know about the inner city -- again, from my own personal experience.
The prison that I went to had juvenile murderers and some really tough kids. One little boy was only 13 and he'd killed someone. One had killed his best friend.
They were players and criminals but I also saw that they were children.
I really connected with the kids and cared about them but it's impossible to expect change when there's no viable support system when they get out. Everything about this issue is complicated. Children in prison is never a good thing.
It sounds like you're working with youth. I applaud you.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm talking about the church within the juvenile system as well as the prison itself.
I'm actually still a youth, though I would like to be part of a mentoring group. And Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

I swear, if some of these people didn't have black people, gay people, and immigrants to hate and spew rants about, they would have nothing to say.

Sorry. In your original post, you indicated that you were "teaching and educating" youth...

Haha, this board would be a dead zone if us brown, gay and jewish folk weren't here.
Agree.....actually this site would bemore like a Stormfront (Lite) without the "diversity" voices weighing in and calling out the blatant biases expressed by many on the P&OC forum specifically.

Uh, no, how about I give YOU a quick history report: RODNEY KING WAS A CRIMINAL THUG WHO RESISTED POLICE ARREST. Police needed to subdue him. When the entire video was viewed by jurors, it told a different story than the usual hogwash about how some poor black man was getting the living daylights beaten out of him by mean old police.

Vick only killed dogs. Little killed an actual human being.
