They had to agree to them if they took the education part of the Obama stimulus. That was the carrot dangled..take this money but we get to call the shots.
Thankfully Texas declined that money.

Texas finally received the funds after that provision was taken out as part of the 2012 budget.

Teaching is indoctrination when the children are taught opinions as facts; e.g., Capitalism is Bad. Teaching is indoctrination when certain political/social messages are repeatedly presented covertly as well as overtly within lessons with the attempt to change students opinions in a particular direction. Teaching is indoctrination when students are mocked/ridiculed for questioning a teacher's opinion. Teaching is indoctrination when the goal is to change the belief/value system of the children. I think you need to brush up on it yourself. Seems that you have never even seen the document nonetheless read it. HC is NOT a right which is what these schools are trying to teach the kids. These kids are being taught what America IS NOT! Now let's take it a step further and take a long hard look at those classes in Arizona and California where they are teaching hatred and the overthrow of the US government. Do you want to put your Marxist spin on that and tell all of us how that is legal in this country and how the Constitution allows for that?
You know, people have the right to believe in what they want to believe. If they choose communism, let it be. They really don't pose a threat, and just because a textbook tells of places where people don't go into debt from visiting a hospital doesn't make them bad. It seems all you want is another trial to force people to believe what you believe.

There were 2 special piles of stimulus money that had carrots.
Education where you had to let the Fed determine your curriculum
and
Unemployment where you had to change your state rules to allow unemployment for part time workers.

Seriously, do people really believe that some 'perfect' future 'REAL' administration will mandate what every child learns in school? Is this really what people want? Does this remind anyone else of East Germany or the USSR?
So, the solution as per the above is to take away local governance? To take away educational choice?

States were falling all over each other to apply for it.
Money with strings attached. Where was the outcry then ?
35 states surrendered their right to determine their curriculum for $$$$$.
