Democrat - Carter
I know everyone thought he was a terrible president.
I wasn't even old enough to vote for him. But I
remember his fireside chats as a kid.
He was a man of peace and diplomacy, of which I have the utmost respect for.
I think one of the most important domestic issues we face today is our energy problems, with it's cost and the
direct connection to the wars of choice we fight. If we had listened to Carter about energy concerns and taken action 30 years ago, imagine where we would be today.
On Feb. 2, 1977, Carter donned a wool cardigan and asked a national TV audience to conserve energy. Two months later, he likened America's imports to the "moral equivalent of war."
He was ahead of his time. A very brilliant man.
Republican - Teddy Roosevelt
He was a strong believer in separation of church and state.
In fact he did not even swear in on the bible. I think
religion is another issue that has muddied the political
waters today and directly affects our foreign policies.
He also was a man of peace - receiving the Nobel Peace
Prize for negotiating between Russia and Japan to end
war. I think he epitomized Young America of the early
1900's.
And since I'm a Libertarian:
Libertarian - Ron Paul
I voted for him in 1988 and I will vote for him again
if he gets the Republican nomination.
Another bright man with a message of peace and
non intervention military policies.
