I was seriously very interested in George HW Bush's candidacy. Before he compromised his principles to become Reagan's running mate. I ended up working on Anderson's campaign.
I voted for John Anderson in the Illinois primary in 1980. I took advantage of Illinois' voting laws to vote in the Repub. primary.
PS Make this modern (1900 or after). No votes for Lincoln if you are a Dem.
For me, I'd have voted for Eisenhower. He was a great man, a military hero, and I'm a big fan of the Interstate System. He was also a political centrist.
Anyone else?
Truman and Kennedy
Sadly, they would be labeled "right wing extremists" by the left today. It shows how far the nation has fallen into the abyss of insanity.
Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and McCain 2004, when George W. Bush killed him in South Carolina with a whisper campaign that he had a black child, and before he went completely insane and picked Palin as his running mate in 2008.
Also Lincoln, who would have been a Democrat if he was alive today.
I'm glad you let us go back that far because most of those I voted for since I started voting ( 1964) haven't been worth a damn ! I read David McCullough's autobiography of Truman and it was fascinating!
Longest book I ever read, over a 1,000 pages but never boring.
