FYI - Congress is under no obligation to pay entitlements. They are entirely at the discretion of Congress. The participant has NO PROPERTY RIGHT to those "entitlements". And just because one "paid in" for all their working life, is immaterial.
If you can't do math, here's a hint:
When SocSec began, there were 15 workers supporting each recipient.
Now?
2 workers for each recipient.
And soon, even less. If you still wish to volunteer into such a system - well - that's your choice.
But there is no law compelling participation, nor punishing those who do not participate.
Again, when my daughter starts working @ 16, what does she say when they ask for a SS#?
Don't punish people who contributed. Go after Congress..strip them of their pensions and put that money back into the SS fund. Congress "borrowed" that money so get it back from them, not the taxpayers.
I agree with you, please do go after the source, Congress. But we know that will not happen, why should hard working individuals who have paid in all their life be the ones to suffer, for the misguidance of our Congress.
It appears us little folks are alwyas the ones to suffer.
The Repubs continue to miss the point, people in there 20s, 30s and 40s, want that safety net to be there for them. The know, and have seen, that the best laid plans of personal retirement security are very susceptible to the unabated greed of some money men. If the GOP gets it's way, that will only become more and more a certainty.
Nice to know we have the spokesperson for the 20, 30 and 40 year olds. Hey, if it is so beloved give people the option to opt out. Surely no one would elect to!

I'm in my 20s and would LOVE to opt out if I could and instead contribute those dollars to my own retirement accounts.
The program has more than just one point. It is also insurance in case God forbid you get disabled.
No, I mistakable left out "that" and in doing so changed the meaning of my sentence, let me clarify.
Destroying the system via bankruptcy was the goal from the get-go with these folks. They knew the only was for the UHC to pass that they wanted would be to slip it through in the middle of the night without the US taxpayers knowing.
