The rich are like a giant blood sucking leach on the face of America...With overwhelming support from their bought and paid for Republican party, and just enough support from enough democrats, we are literally seeing the beginning of the transfer of almost every last penny of wealth and prosperity in this country put into the hands of less than 10% of the country...!

Patriotism - the very wealthy are not patriotic. Patriotism is used as a mechanism to send the poor and middle class off to fight wars to protect the interest of the very wealthy.

If you want to blame somebody for 'burdening the middle class', start with the guy in the White House, and check Illinois's worst-in-the-nation balance sheet while you're at it.

That's right. Globalism has replaced patriotism.
We are global workers, global citizens in a global economy.

You can't have it both ways.

All of us already are being taxed too much via INFLATION thank to Ben Bernanke and the expansion of the money supply and all his generosity with our money to his elite friends and bankster buddies. It is the poor and middle and upper middle class who are being hit a lot harder than the elites as a larger and larger percentage of their incomes have to be used to pay for the escalating food and energy prices.. Any additional taxes won't make a dent in the debt. It HAS to be restructured. Period.

If every employed American paid 100% of their income in taxes it wouldn't even come close to covering the debt. Raising taxes in this economy is a stupid idea. The government should know you can't get blood from a stone.

The mortgage backed securities should not be paid back or paid back with pennies on the dollar. No Americans taxpayers should have to pay for any losses to investors from fraudulent investments.

More to the point we aren't being taxed enough by inflation. If we were we would be having full employment. What we are having is stagflation. the worst of deflation and inflation at the same time. If you cause wage price inflation with the minimum wage law then you can inflate the bottom more than the top and get a more functional wage wealth distribution.

You mean you can't have 'patriotism' in a global sense?

Why don't they just vote to kill everyone except themselves and be done with it?

Obama would just be allowing the previous tax cuts for the rich expire - do they want to give one penny away? No, because they are rich, selfish and greedy.

'With the clock ticking toward an Aug. 2 deadline, senior Republicans said negotiations led by Vice President Joe Biden had ceased making headway as congressional Democrats pressed for as much as $400 billion in new taxes on corporations and the nation's wealthiest households.'

Debt-reduction talks hit an impasse

Beggars cannot be choosers.

When 50% of Americans pay no income tax, they have little room to criticize the rest of the nation that actually pays their way.

Why not everyone pay 25% flat tax with no deductions? That way, even the "beggar class" has some skin in the game and will have some concerns over tax hikes vs fiscal responsibility? If not, everyone who pays nothing will just vote for more spending and no taxes (it is human nature, as it costs them nothing).
