The rich and wealthy corporations have done very well in the past decade, even as they have decimated the middle class by outsourcing their jobs. Now they want all of the budget balancing to be done in the form of cuts to Medicare, foodstamps, welfare, etc - all the programs that are keeping the middle afloat, and the poor alive.

Why don't they just vote to kill everyone except themselves and be done with it?

Obama would just be allowing the previous tax cuts for the rich expire - do they want to give one penny away? No, because they are rich, selfish and greedy.

'With the clock ticking toward an Aug. 2 deadline, senior Republicans said negotiations led by Vice President Joe Biden had ceased making headway as congressional Democrats pressed for as much as $400 billion in new taxes on corporations and the nation's wealthiest households.'

Debt-reduction talks hit an impasse

At least they pay income tax. That's better than 40% of Americans.

I would suggest that Walmart has done quite a bit for the poor American by giving them a job.

Since the rich already cover MOST of the taxes paid, some pay more than 50% in taxes what they make, just how much more do you want to steal from them and give out to someone else?

your premise is total rubbish. fact: the top 1% take in 19% of the income in this country, and pay nearly 40% of the taxes collected by the government. the rich pay more than their fair share, its just that liberals and progressive are pushing class warfare.

Enough of this canard which it seems many have adopted against their own interests. Idiocy at its finest.

How about looking at the percentage of wealth paid in taxes by the rich compared to everyone else?

While the rich pay 40% of the taxes, they pay a VERY small percentage of their actual wealth while the middle class pays a very HIGH percentage of their actual wealth in taxes.

Also MOST taxes are in the form of payroll taxes... SS and Medicare deductions. In those taxes the poor and middle class pay most AND pay a much higher proportion of their income and wealth

People realize that their likely NOT going to be rich some day. Stop defending the 250K a year you are never going to earn.

They give more than 49% of Americans (yes, 49% of Americans don't pay income taxes)

What about payroll taxes? Payroll taxes account for most of the government income?

Why do you leave those out?

Is the greedy person the one that doesn't want to give even more of their money or the one that's demanding more of someone else's money?

By the way, those programs were never intended to keep the middle class afloat and doing so is why aren't sustainable in present form.
