Absurd, ridiculous and Antithetical to everything this country was based on. Typical Tea Party conservative blather.
They can pay special fees to vote : $50-$100 a year

How about looking at the percentage of wealth paid in taxes by the rich compared to everyone else?

While the rich pay 40% of the taxes, they pay a VERY small percentage of their actual wealth while the middle class pays a very HIGH percentage of their actual wealth in taxes.

Also MOST taxes are in the form of payroll taxes... SS and Medicare deductions. In those taxes the poor and middle class pay most AND pay a much higher proportion of their income and wealth

People realize that their likely NOT going to be rich some day. Stop defending the 250K a year you are never going to earn.
THis is a silly post....so what if someone pays a higher % of their wealth than others....services have a cost, why should one group pay for others services?
Want a service pay for it...don't expect someone else to give a handout...

Also, SS is paid back later, so all that is a forced retirement fund...so your argument is justt silly..

Huum, someone works hard, makes a good income, and wants to keep more of it..they are called greedy..simply because they want others to pay an equal share of services they recieve....and called selfish when the say no....

Doesn't sound like taking from the middle class, sounds more like someone trying to force others to pay for their handouts...

Why do you leave those out?
Payroll taxes pay for less than 50% of Gov revenue..and chucklehead, SS is given back as part of a forced retirement program, where income taxes are not given back to high earners...they get to pay for the other 40% plus who pay for no services...

Wrong chuckles...

What are the federal government's sources of revenue?

Much of this is SS..whcih is returned to those in retirement, so total paid by most does not cover their share of services....

as for the payroll taxes paid by those that collect a salary, most of the people that pay those taxes get the majority of them back through tax returns at the end of the year, what with all the tax credits and tax deductions available to the people.

as for what i earn or dont earn, it doesnt matter. i dont care if someone else makes 5 times, or 500 times what i earn. that is their business not mine, and i wont begrudge anyone who goes out and works for a living, be they a ditch digger making minimum wage, or the CEO of a multinational corporation making $500 million per year. it is the small business owner in this country though that will be hurt if we raise taxes on those that make more than $250,000 per year, and that will trickle down to those that earn a paycheck when they get laid off, or dont get the raise they wanted, or get their hours cut, all because liberals and progressives want to raise the taxes of the small business owner to ostensibly increase tax revenues to the government.

remember the phrase "the power to tax is the power to destroy"? as i have said many times, and it has been proven many times by using the CBOs OWN numbers, when taxes go up, the economy slows down, and the tax base shrinks. why is this you ask? good question. what happens in that business owners will cut payroll, and other expenses, so that they can try to maintain their profit margins, slim as they are. remember that a business is not there to create jobs, but rather to make money. as a result of making money, a business will tend to expand. but take away that money, through taxes or regulations, and the business will tend to contract.
Great post....wish these idiots would worry about themselves versus worrying about what others make and trying to take money from one group to provide handouts to others...there is plenty of money to go around, those that have good ideas and work hard will do just fine...

The wealthy pay about the same percentage of their income in taxes as everyone else does. Since they make so much more than the rest of Americans, of course they pay more taxes.

'high-income Americans pay overall taxes that are roughly proportional to their income – and that most lower-income groups do the same. To put it in numbers, according to the analysis, the top 1 percent of earners account for 20.3 percent of total personal income in the United States and pay 21.5 percent of all federal and state taxes. The middle 20 percent of households earn 11.6 percent of US income and pay 10.3 percent of taxes. The lowest 20 percent account for just 3.5 percent of income, and pay 2 percent of all taxes.

Note that these numbers look at the broad mix of US taxes, not just income taxes. Federal gas taxes, payroll taxes, and state sales taxes offset the progressive tilts of the income tax and estate tax.

The report also sheds light from another angle, showing the percentage of income that each group pays in total taxes. Lower-income groups pay a smaller – but still significant – share of their incomes in taxes. For example, the lowest fifth of earners pay, on average, 16 percent of their income in taxes. At the higher end of the scale, the top fifth pay a bit more than 30 percent of their income in taxes, not much higher than the next fifth down.

And within that top tier, the top 1 percent pay 30 percent of their income in taxes, which is actually a bit less than the 31 percent of income that the next 9 percent of taxpayers pay.

That is just so funny to me. I do know a lot of very wealthy people, maybe not by hollywood standard rich, but well off. Do you know how much they give to chairites so many different ones. And to shelters, and to those less forrtunate then themselves. I will tell you what anytime you would like to trade places with these gentlemen, and pay their taxes, and them yours, they will probably take you up on your offer, because they pay a shi-load in taxes, to say they do not is just plain ignorance period. It is just that American has become a greedy Nation of the give me bunch, give me what other people have earned, not the way it is suppose to be. Infact i believe it is those who have money, that are the most giving.

Why don't they just vote to kill everyone except themselves and be done with it?

Obama would just be allowing the previous tax cuts for the rich expire - do they want to give one penny away? No, because they are rich, selfish and greedy.

Debt-reduction talks hit an impasse

Wealthy corporations can do business wherever they like. Today the US has some of the highest marginal corporate tax rates in the world. How do our high tax rates which force internationals to leave the US for more business friendly nations help the poor in this country?

By forcing US companies to leave, how do we collect revenue and provide jobs for Americans?
