Seems the teacher needs to loosen his Jockeys. I'm not a churchgoer, but I'll say "bless you", "God bless you", or "Gesundheit" if someone sneezes in my presence. And if nobody blesses me (and I'm with friends or family), I say "God bless me - no one else will"!
It's certainly overreacting to dock grades for a common courteous expression.
Yeah, but what do you say if the sneezing kid had just had his nasal live flu vaccine?
"When you sneezed in the old days, they thought you were dispelling evil spirits out of your body," Cuckovich said. "So they were saying, 'god bless you' for getting rid of evil spirits. But today, I said what you're doing doesn't really make any sense anymore."
Good for you for taking my advise and checking sources other than Beck's rag.
You calling Becks site a rag is ridiculous considering its correct and considering that he only links from other sources. Majority of the stories on that site is linked from other sources. Its not like hes posting nothing but opinion pieces. Then yeah I can see someone calling it out but since he links from other sources. Nahh you are just attacking because you dont like his message or the stories he links
I'm not nitpicking. I'm just pointing out that all the facts are not known and yet people are leaping to conclusions based on a limited set of information. Having heard plenty of anecdotal stories, it is not hard for me to envision scenarios were students were being intentionally disruptive. Is that the case in this situation? I have no way of knowing.
I do know that this type of story feeds into the sense of Christian victimization that is being practiced by many people now a days.
Offended by saying "bless you"--how is that not a case of atheist victimization?
Appears we have more then the parents word for it.
How about the teacher admitting to it. Did you even read the link? A Northern California teacher says he doesn't want to hear a common courtesy in his classroom.
Cuckovich says the policy has nothing to do with religion, but says the phrase is just a outdated practice and disrupts class time.
That is on theblaze link along with this one
Maybe you'll read a link about it from an abc site
For some people, "bless you" is almost as involuntary as the sneeze itself.
Exactly. I'm one of those people. I mean nothing religion or superstitious about it when I say it. It just comes out automatically.
I think this teacher would be hard-pressed to find people that believe sneezing dispels evil spirits these days. Unless he can actually find someone that believes that, his argument holds no water IMO.

Maybe the teacher would leave the kids alone if they involuntarily responded with "Sieg Heil" instead of "bless you".
Damned socialists with their PC.
"When the frontal lobe damage is bilateral and generally more extensive, the patient completely loses the ability to act in a self-directed manner and becomes totally dependent upon the surrounding environmental indicators to guide his behavior in a general social context, a condition also identified by Lhermitte (1986), and referred to as "Environmental Dependency Syndrome".
