It's the administration's fight against "food insecurity".
Oregon got $6.5 million in bonus money because they signed up record numbers of people to SNAP.
Don't say "food stamps" any more because it creates a sigma with people who use them.

Here's the article for the $5 million. They got $1.5 million earlier for "efficient handling of their clients".

Oddly enough, employment is a pretty good way to fight food insecurity. Too bad Obama's jobs plan focuses on growing government and paying back his Lightsquared bundler instead of actual jobs.

We were promised hope and change... not exactly what I had in mind though.

I'm not sure what the OP is upset about, it's this ideology that she supports in the first place.

It all falls under the usual double speak we get from them here daily: The government is bad bad bad and only the free market creates jobs, however we will blame Obama because free market is not creating jobs.

See how that works?

Other than empty slogan talk, can you produce one shred of evidence to support your claim? I'd bet not...

It's not as worse as I thought it was, but I could've sworn that I read a report that said some higher percentage.

Why not blame greedy landlords? Food stamp eligibility is based on income minus (housing + medical expenses).

Rents are soaring in many parts of the country.

Note that the early stages of any job recovery can increase the number of people on food stamps because job creation drives rents upward. In fact, because new construction has now been in the tank for several years, any substantial job recovery will cause rents to necessarily skyrocket and probably food stamps as well. It will be another decade or more before new construction recovers sufficiently to stabilize rents.

There are a lot of overeducated underemployed baristas in this country. As far as I can tell, the Republican jobs plan is to have even more overeducated underemployed Americans.

Correct. Rents are soaring now in the face of high unemployment. Just imagine how high rents will go if unemployment falls.
