I don't think it matters who leaked it. Two women did accuse him of sexual harassment. A settlement was made. We don't know the details, and even if we knew the women's version of what happened, so what? It's still he-said-she-said. Supporters of Cain will believe Cain, some people won't make a decision on who to believe because the don't care enough, or because the story is old, some people will believe the women. If the leak was non-factual, then it would be a smear, and who leaked it would be important. But Politico gave Cain's campaign 10-days advance warning that this story was going to break, he had time to prepare a statement, and then to get on with his campaign. There is an element of paranoia in the Cain campaign's desire to find out who leaked the story. And that ain't good.

Politico ran with the story, but they didn't come up with it--they were contacted by someone with info, they investigated and contacted numerous sources, and they gave the Cain camp 10 days to respond before they went public. If this was a smear campaign with made up info (like the one where McCain's daughter was supposedly a love child with a black mistress) that would be one thing, but there really are two settlements with real women for sexual harassment. That's legitimate news for a presidential candidate.
There's no option for Cain himself, who is the source. He wants out of the campaign before the idiots actually vote for him because it means he won't be able to host The Cain Train, weeknights at 10PM on Fox News starting in March.

Although Rahm has been accused as well, but it's likely either Romney or Perry - Cain damaged helps Perry more than Romney.
Op research - same kind of stuff Hillary did to obama about his birth cert. Those of you who don't know - it was the HILLARY campaign who opened that can of worms.
