Why exactly is long-term unemployment not akin to deadbeat??? Also, what on earth makes you think all the long-term unemployed spend all day looking for work??? While that may be true for part of the population, I highly doubt it's true for most of them.
And your evidence to support any of this?????????????
See, I can do that too. Whilst it's true that I have only anecdotal evidence to support my theorem (and the use of Occam's Razor, which states that anyone who can't find a job in 2 years is more likely not looking than it is like they just can't succeed), it's the same evidence you have. Yet you claim that I must clearly be wrong because you "highly doubt" it's true.
I know qhite a few people who have now lost their jobs and have had to recieve benefits........ they have applied for many jobs but the demand far outweighs the success rate.
Far too many are too quick to judge others on here without any kind of proof of what they are condemning people of...... Bit dumb huh?
When your gut is published and peer reviewed, I'll give it more credence.

Since I know some very fine people who lost their jobs and still can't find work , I call a person who refers to them as "dregs" as a complete moron who has no facts but likes to create class warfare ....who is so patheitic that denigrating others with no facts to back up their crap is the ONLY way they can feel good about themselves ...poor things...
...that's OK, like I pointed out in my last post...their attitude towards so many millions of Americans will show at the polls.
Republican frothing about poor people is always somewhere between disgusting and amusing. I vote disgusting on this one. If we can bail out rich and incompetent bankers we have no right to demand that the unemployed sleep in the streets and forage from the garbage can.

It's not like I'm going to lunch with a person who has been "unemployed" for about a year and a half now doing exactly what I describe....oh wait, I totally AM having lunch with him later. And I'm going to make him pay. And I'll probably call him a bum sometime during the lunch, which he'll laugh at, because he's the first to admit he totally is.
I have never applied for unemployment benefits or played XBox, but I've been unemployed foir a long time and I would LOVE the opportunity to get training and a job. Not everyone can snap their fingers and land a job if they only do it or even try really hard.

You would've been told about it IF you were smart enough to apply for unemployment they would've TOLD YOU all your options!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a Master's Degree + 5 years of experience in my field, which is a very specialized and un-saturated field... and it still took me 6+ months to find a new job, when I was laid off in 2010. Thank goodness for UI, which was merely a fraction of what I'd earned previously - but just enough to keep me off the streets (or my mother's house) while I actively searched for employment. And no, it didn't allow me the luxury of partying & spending money on anything but necessities. You know, little things like rent, food, electricity, and gas for my car as I drove as far as 200mi for job interviews.
I can only imagine people with lesser qualifications & educations trying to find work now, and some of them genuinely need these extensions as they job-hunt. Sure, some people take advantage and use it as an excuse to do nothing... and something like 5+ years (unlikely) is pretty ridiculous. But if you visit the unemployment board here on C-D, you'll see many do NOT abuse the system. You'll also learn how it pays less than one's previous earnings, and you must be laid off in order to qualify. So this isn't "welfare" we're talking about, and the majority of people on UI would do anything to have their jobs back. Of course it's easier to judge from the sidelines, rather than admitting our country is in a serious recession with millions of people who truly can't find work. But judge not, lest ye be judged one day for needing help in this terrible economy.
Don't let the Silver Spooners around here get to you. The are sure they are better than most and know more than anyone else as well.

Gee, sorry you only know low lifes....I know at least a dozen people WHO DIDN'T LAY THEMSELES OFF who spent their time off at school or trying to find jobs....so my dozen GOOD people are more typical than your ONE friend low life...

Yeah, it's not like I know more than one person, or can't find the Facebook groups devoted to "Funemployment", or don't meet a lot of these people at Meetup groups or the like.
