Yeah because people on welfare these days have a higher standard of living than people on welfare 20 years ago.
Just because I have a Plasma TV, iPhone and my parents 20 years didn't doesn't mean there is great social mobility in America.
It's all perception my friend. More people think of themselves as middle class then blue collar or working class.
If you are better off today than your parents were that is mobility.
I am better off than my parents who were better off than their parents.
That is climbing the economic ladder.
My grandparents were blue collar, my parents (father only) were blue collar.
I am white collar (college degree, office job).
Thankfully I kept my blue collar upbringing and have been able to live beneath my means and save a bundle.

So if your parents were poor 20 years ago, and you are still poor but have a slightly higher standard of living, that social mobility?
Nope.
I'm not saying social mobility is bad in America. It just isn't even close to countries like Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Well if you envy the social mobility factor so much in those countries then make plans to move there. Nothing stopping you except your own inaction.
This is a global economy now with a global workforce. Go to where you think the grass is greener.
And I am not being sarcastic with this statement. Embrace the globalism if it benefits you.

Intergenerational mobility is about jumping class. How the hell are 53% of the Middle Class supposed to jump to up to the next level, when that is an economic impossibility which is not the fault of any politician or political party?

Then why don't you go kill 303 Million Americans and then the US will have the same population as Norway and you can be socially mobile.

I don't envy anything. I'm just saying that America is falling behind in this global economy on a daily basis. Above mentioned countries do not.

Not only doesn't the middle class increase in America, it evaporates on a daily basis.

What ? Where are you going with this ?
What does that have to do with your question ?
You asked "why" and I gave you an answer.
The US and European governments are structured totally different.
You're trying to compare apples to oranges here and I'm not biting.
So you already knew the answer. Just come out with a post stating your preference..not posing a baiting question.
You've GOTTA be kidding! I bet that i can go to any "Why do blacks breathe air" trolling/baiting threads and there you'll be....posting away and not calling the OP out worth a damn. C'mon now...let's be fair here.
As to the OP, I actually think it's easier to climb the ladder here moreso than in Europe. I'm not so sure that the labor laws in Europe lend themselves to upward mobility moreso than stagnation for individual workers. I supervised German employees, and they seemed to get to a satisfactory station in life much younger than Americans on average without moving up very far. They were happy to have a safe, secure job....and as long as it paid the bills and they could take their 6 week vacations, they were fat and happy.
Now, America COULD get like that in the coming years because now no one is secure anymore (except for certainy municipal and federal workers). I can definitely see it coming.
