It is now official that fracking is to blame for the eleven earthquakes in Ohio. This will be a growing problem as fracking is done all over the country in an attempt to be energy independent.

I think alternative renewable energy should be our first choice. Other countries are way ahead of us in this area.

State Representative Robert Hagan has . . . called for a statewide moratorium on injection drilling until 2014. The Youngstown City Council voted Wednesday to support his proposal.

'I'm tired of these discussions happening in secret,' Mr Hagan said.

'People have a right to know what's going on, what's being done.'

I think we need to face up to the fact that Americans are gluttonous pigs who consume obscene and unnecessary amounts of energy.

To be fair, it should be pointed out that the well causing the earthquakes is a disposal well where they have been pumping uses fracking fluids.

If fracking causes earthquakes, wouldn't that be a desireable side-effect?

Arkansas has had a bunch of earthquakes recently. There is a lot of natural gas drilling and fracking in the Fayetteville Shale.

Y'all need to learn the difference between fracking and injection wells before you go off on a crusade.

Default Fracking Caused Ohio's 11 Earthquakes

If that was the case Texas would be rockin all the time, I don't believe it.

Why? They both inject fluid into the ground - causing pressure increases.
One cracks rocks to release fluid and one cracks rocks to inject fluid.

Besides, the media decided that there isn't a difference between the two.

Once terminology gets ingrained into the culture, you can't stop it.
Thank goodness we stopped using the term "Tidal Wave" and switched to Tsunami ( Harbor Wave ).

That was my first thought as well, and I live in the area

Ohio Connects Quakes to Injection Well, Previously Unknown Fault Line Nearby (http://business-journal.com/ohio-connects-quakes-to-injection-well-previously-unknown-fault-line-nearb-p20690-1.htm - broken link)

The earthquakes did not result from the hydraulic fracturing process used to extract oil and gas from the Marcellus and Utica shale plays, officials emphasized, but rather the injection of fluid byproducts into the D&L well in close proximity to the Youngstown-area fault line.

No, a politician decided there isnt a difference between the two, other media sources very well did discuss the differences, not the link above.
