Reading the anti Obama posts in this thread makes me realize that for these people the criteria for their "Obamaphobia" has as much merit as the Salem witch hunts or the McCarthy "reds under the bed" hysteria after WW2. Their comments underlines the fact that Education MUST now be a priority in the USA.
Partisan politics here has now become a War and like all wars, Truth is the first casualty.
Obama is not going to destroy America and, in fact, he is now pulling America from the huge abyss that America was plunged into before he took office and America is now slowly but surely coming out of recession.
Gung Ho rhetoric from the right will not save America. It will, however, please the sheeple who cannot accept that we now live in the 21st Century and the World has moved on from being intimidated by threats of War and we need to concentrate on the well being of America before we bankrupt ourselves trying to "save" the rest of the World.
There are many reasons why some here want Obama to fail and many of the reasons have nothing to do with Obama as a politician.
Obama's State of the Union speech was on the money. It now shows a Republican party that has not learned anything from their disastrous handling of America's economy, foreign policy, illegal immigration and crumbling infrastructure. There is NO room in todays America for Partisan hatred and obstructionism but as far as the Right is concerned.......... "the beat goes on" and Elitist greed is King. We have been down that road with the last Republican administration and we don't want to repeat that journey.
The Country cannot be put in the hands of a party to sort out our economy, that cannot even sort out its own finances.
Great Speech Mr President...... pity a segment of the Country would prefer to see America fail than you succeed.

Well said! Too many people watched Wall Street and missed the point entirely; they believed Gordon Gekko when he said, "Greed is good." And logic tells us that any society which regresses will ultimately fail.

You rail on and on about the evils of partisan politics and partisan hatred yet you blame everything that has gone wrong in this country on Republicans and think that Democrats are always right?

Get a clue - YOU are obsessed with partisan politics and "hating the other side." You're too blinded to blame your side for anything and truly do hate the other side.

I'm glad the OP and the leftists loved the SOTU speech last night.

Did it sound familiar?

It was 98% word for word taken from his previous SOTU speeches.

President Obama outlined his ideas for America in The Audacity of Hope. His message is consistent and nothing new to those who did their homework.

Really??????????????
I actually come from a Country were politics can be discussed without the fear of being shot.
When i moved to the USA i was a independent but leaning to the right and supported Bush..... i cheered when he got his second term but with experience comes knowledge and having experienced both the Bush administration and now the Obama administration i have a new perspective on both parties. I do not have years of family partisanship for either parties to color my views, as many do here but i have looked at both sides as a outsider with no preconceptions. This has enabled me to see the good and bad on both sides and unlike many here i tell it as i see it.
I don't hate the Republican party but i can see that they are becoming all that is bad in America. The Country is being held to ransom by the right wing nut jobs who feel that America is still firmly embedded in the 50's/60's. The days when freedom was the privilege of the white male.
The gap between rich and poor was not a big problem and a hard days work meant a well earned wage.... if you were of the right color.
Today the right want to return to the days of the masters and servants and this must not be allowed to happen. They scream that the left are creating a class warfare but fail to see that this is being caused by extreme wealth and greed dominating the Republican agenda with huge tax breaks and perks to the weathy and cries of unfair if the lower income bracket wants a fair system.
This is how it is and hopefully either the right will get into 2012 or another party will be formed to put the Republican party out of our misery.

Despite what Rush Limbaugh might of intimated on the radio today, that's just plain not true.

I work during the day and missed what he said.

Can you elaborate?

Oh, read this and weep.

The numbers show a 12% drop from last year.

A Decline in Viewers for State of the Union Address - NYTimes.com

Quote:
The State of the Union address Tuesday night was seen by 37.8 million television viewers, according to figures released by the Nielsen company, by far the fewest who have watched President Obama give the address.

The number was down from 42.8 million last year, 48 million in 2010, and 52.3 million for the president’s address to Congress during his first year in office in 2009.
People were right to realize nothing much new would be in his campaign speech.

I liked the end,
"The good news is that after a couple years these sorts of speeches begin to write themselves"

Just shake the hands, and direct him to the podium
