Aside from that but can you imagine automatically thinking that every person who believes in God hates you? That has to be depressing
Yes, it must be... but that's what Christians tend to project, so it's no wonder they receive most of the backlash on this issue. I've known my share of gay Christians - some of whom are also Black, however the majority seem to avoid old-school (i.e. "Hell and Brimstone") churches for this very reason.
You created a thread to question why a city doesn't have a sizeable gay community? And then tried to make it look like the city was SUPPOSED to have some sort of gay community? Since when were cities supposed to have gay communities? Seriously, what kind of stuff is that? Sorry that Detroit doesn't have enough gay people for you, my apologies. It's just very strange to me that someone would question why a group of people don't seem to be down with homosexuality or why a city doesn't have enough gay people. Don't you see something wrong with that?
A major city is supposed to be diverse and filled with people from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures. Furthermore, the fact that there is no gay community to be found anywhere in a city as big as Detroit when there was one before in Palmer Park as recently as teh 1970s and 1980s (crime was just as bad then as it is now, so that's not an excuse, and that little gay enclave has more or less migrated to the suburbs, though to be honest there is no HUGE gay community at all in Michigan because the entire state is hostile to gays in general, but still) is symbolic of how hostile African Americans are to the gay community.
Detroit isn't a typical major city (the strangest of them all in fact), I'll give you that.

IMO those old-school churches are the same ones where the pastor is messing with two or three women in the congregation; the deacons are in the clubs on Saturday night and the half the choir is pregnant.
I've always been taught there's a difference between being spiritual and being religious. Spirituality is about your personal relationship with God. Religion has more to do with tradition and practices. Not all religious people are spiritual and (IMO) the ones who aren't are usually the loudest because they want everyone else to think they are.
[quote=natalayjones;22905319]That's right you don't know.
You don't know if I have any gay friends, do you?
You don't know if I have any gay family members, do you?
If I do, do you know what my relationship is like with them?
No because you nothing about me but yet you're here calling accusing me of being a bigot while you're making assumptions based on ONE fact about my life.
Maybe you should learn the meaning of words before you use them.
From your rant, it sounds like I hit a nerve. Maybe you should really examine your true core values and the so called friendships with your gay friends. If you really believed in your heart that you are not a bigot, you would not have a need to get upset and defend yourself. I call it as I see it and you can't handle it. Deal with it. Good night.
Between Tracy Morgan's "comments" and Roland Martin's latest "statement", what the hell is wrong with blacks and homosexuality?
Nothing, so quit worrying about it.
I'm sure there's a food insecure child in your neighborhood who desperately needs your help, if only you would come down off of your soap-box for a few seconds, unless, of course, you're an hungry-childphobe.

Naw you didn't hit a nerve. I think you're amusing. Sitting online saying "you should accept my choices but I don't have to accept yours."
I wasn't defending myself just making a point. The question in the thread is Why Is The Black Community In General So Homophobic? My reply was that due to religious beliefs a lot of black people (since black people are the topic of this thread) view homosexuality as a sin. And then I elaborated on my opinion. You are the one who wanted to make it a personal thing, like you know me, so I played along.
But you're right. I can't deal with the fact that some stranger posting online has an issue with me believing in God....I just..can't...take it anymore....

No. A major city is supposed to be what it is. If there is not a gay community then SO BE IT. You are an example of the type of people that try to FORCE homosexuality and try to promote it. Why? I talked about that in another thread - how people seem to want everyone to accept homosexuality or how people want to see more of it because it SOMEHOW promotes diversity. Sorry, but that is not something like having a new diverse restaurant in the town, this is sexuality, human nature that we are talking about.

Great response and I totally understand where you are coming from.
