That is why I included those "web" links. So people can see w/ their own eyes. You can throw routers in there also. There is a bit of a "myth" around "Linux" simply due to "consumer end users".
I think Open Source models are the model of the future for many things. They just make much more sense. You can apply this community model to so many things.
But yea, I'm definitely NOT on board with the bitcoin idea
LOL, you have thunder? Amazing.
Bitcoin is very interesting. Central Control is a major problem w/ many things including currency in my view. Now Open Source could definitely be put in the "political" group. I think it is a "quiet market" that will continue to replace these closed proprietary system models. Even in patenting, there have been more and more realizing that making it Open Source is the way to go.

The only problem I see with Bitcoin is...that it is legitimately a hackers currency.
The theft, tracing and hacking issues that can present itself can essentially let a handful of "elite" coders and programmers run rampant. Not much unlike what we have now.
IP is a very slippery slope....But I do support open source.
I just wish one of you techno-whizzes would engineer a way to permanently zap Micrsosoft Bing. It has a way of suddenly appearing on my screen and offering to lead me away from my research topic to a sale at Fish Fat Am Us or something. Damn thing doesn't even know what City-Data is.
What in the hell.....is Bing all about? Its logarithms seem synocopated or something.

I understand what you are saying, however... Transparency and diversity I find are far better protections than closed and proprietary. All systems are hackable. It goes on all the time, just in "secret". Better to bring it to the light of day.

Do you have a Bing toolbar enabled in your browser?
It is fun.
I think people are intimidated by computers. There's so much that a person can do with their computer to make life easier. If you can learn to send an email, you can learn to install an application. Or change a setting. Or whatever. It really is that simple.
Peace,
brian
Yes it is. But "terms" can be intimidating, until you realize they are just words. Look them up. Find out what they mean, and they no longer intimidate.
Read the forums too. I have learned a lot from Sitepoint. Love that place, and I have several of their books (5 or 6) as well as a book on PHP 5.3.
One has to ask why anyone would want to download an OS associated w/ "them".
