Five seconds on Google finds the text of Florida's "stand your ground" law, which includes the following:

A person who uses force as permitted in s. 776.012, s. 776.013, or s. 776.031 is justified in using such force and is immune from criminal prosecution and civil action for the use of such force, unless the person against whom force was used is a law enforcement officer, as defined in s. 943.10(14), who was acting in the performance of his or her official duties and the officer identified himself or herself in accordance with any applicable law or the person using force knew or reasonably should have known that the person was a law enforcement officer.

Does nobody bother to do the most rudimentary of research anymore?

NBCs actions in the course of this coverage have been dispicable. They first try to make an isolated, unfortunate incident into a racial issue...when it shouldn't have been one. Then they lie, and claim that Zimmerman persued Martin after being told not to leave his vehicle. When the 911 tape clearly shows otherwise...that he was already following at a distance when told "we don't need you to to that". And then he STOPS. Then they go on to fabricate and manipulate the 911 tape to make Zimmerman appear to be a racist.

Blatent and disgusting manipulation on the part of NBC. It's one thing when it's a public figure, but to play these pathetic games with a private individual...there is no excuse. Regardless of the outcome of the trial, this guy is a villan in the eyes of much of the country. Largely to make money for some of the more pathetic media outlets. There quality of news coverage in this country is pretty pathetic, but I think NBC has set a new low.

I hope they get taken to the cleaners for the lies they have told. And if Zimmerman or his family is murdered at the hands of an inflamed mob, I hope the executives and producers are prosecuted for 2nd degree murder. They show far more intent and disregard for life than Zimmerman ever did.
