Why would they learn, when probably what they hear all the time is ME, MINE, and rugged individualism, rather than any social responsibility toward people their world and community?
What country are you talking about? Last I heard, Colorado was in the United States - and I think we do a pretty good job of inculcating a combination of personal and social responsibility in the people who will lead our society in the future. Certainly selfishness is not upheld as a value, like you insinuated.

What are you talking about....I said their world and community....meaning personal world in Colorado and elsewhere.
I disagree with you.

Honestly, I think getting a bullet in your flesh is enough of a punishment.
She made a stupid mistake when drunk. Sloppy? Yes. Foolish? Yes.
But does that make her the equivalent of a burglar or a perjurer? I think not.
She does not deserve to go to jail over this, or a felony charge. I would be more inclined to affirm the second, however, if a felony was not a major hardship in obtaining a respectable job. She did not gravely injure the homeowners, or their property, or their reputation, in any way. In fact, before I heard about this story I would never have known that the woman whose house she walked into was the author of a book that I am now interested and am thinking about checking out the next time I go to the library.
All things considered, she's mighty lucky to have come away with no more than a booboo on her hip.
Indeed. Stupid hurts and sometimes it kills. She's darned lucky. I suspect her attorney will plea bargain the felony charge down to something lesser. She should be financially liable for the homeowners legal and cleaning fees.
Hmm.Well some folks don't panic at a drunk person. I had a drunk young woman walk thru my house. When she walked into my front door, my sons were watching TV, my dog held her down, w/out breaking skin, by her wrist. She was terrified....My boys guided her out our backdoor, where my hubby and I were standing putting the fixins up from our neighborhood bar-b-que. I asked her where she was supposed to be, she told me...I drove her the couple streets over. My hubby checked w/ those home owners to make sure that was the place. No biggie
Love that "Make My Day" law, huh? Would it make your day to kill someone? I mean, defending your home is one thing, but to crow about "Make My Day" is quite another.
I'm guessing that the home owners in this incident are probably pretty happy they didn't kill this woman and have to live with that for the rest of their lives.
Oh, lookie, it's someone who doesn't know where "Make My Day" came from.

Does every drunk you have encountered behave in the same manner or do you think that your experience and the experience of the homeowner in CO might have been different?
