How did you do it?
I did a search and found a couple of articles that made it sound like only certain folks could opt out. People like:
Clergy
Federal employees
Workers in some states
Other than that, this article says "However, that's it. If you're self-employed or work for a private company, you must pay into Social Security, Copeland says."
Yes - the answer is in what you provided. I'm just not going to tell you how to do it.
actually you can. if you have a TIN instead of a SSN, you still pay the social security TAX, but you just dont get to get it when you get to retiring age.
also another way to never pay the TAX nor ever get the payments is to never get a social security number. I know more than just a couple of people that do not have a goverment id number. my daughters all dont have any socialized security numbers.
Hmmm......why does this come off as dubious?
I've had to produce a SSN hundreds of times in my life. I couldnt work in my present job without a SSN.
And how will your children collect your benefits if you die if they don't have a SSN?
I think privatizing SS is a great idea. I have a nephew that will show me some inside deals and I will make a fortune selling short when the overblown market collapses.
If Bush had his way back in 2005, there'd be no social security today. It would have disappeared into the Wall St ledgers in September of 2008.
As though So-So insecurity exists today in any form except dusty IOU notes.
Apparently you haven't been reading the post of your fellow liberals who have been crowing lately about raising stock prices (thanks to Obama of course).
As long as we don't put money in brain dead feel-good investments like Solyndra and diversify, in the end, we'll be far better off than betting the farm on the next generation being able to pay off our accumulated debt and our entitlements.
Personally, I think paying for our retirement is a lot to ask of people we just robbed by running up the debt in their name.
I think you are bsing us on dropping out of SS since your link only says who can opt out. You say the answer is in the article but you won't say what. Either put up or shut up.
I'm not "BSing" you. I have NOT paid into SS for 4 decades. The issue is however complex and a forum such as this is not the place to look at the individual situation.
Again, if you are interested, contact a COMPETENT LEGAL / TAX advisor
OBTW - If you think I'm "BSing" you; its no skin off my butt - I know what I know and there are others here on CD Forums who have done exactly what I have done.
