The government can replace what it steals, so are you really sure that you would rather turn Social Security over to Citigroup, Barclay's, Goldman Sachs et.al.,?
What is with folks, they can recite history from 1787 but can't remember 2007!
UK experimented handing over their SS to the international bankers, but the expariment failed, when the retirement savers ended up giving away vast majority of their investment profits to the banks in form of fees and service charges. This is happening with 401K today, where average investor gives away 30% of their savings to the banks.

The government the last few decades has been stealing all the contributions from SS into the general fund.
MAYBE if SS is privatized we can stop the theft of SS contributions by our government.
What do you folks think of that?
I wouldn't mind if SS was where it is now IF THE GOVERNMENT DIDN'T MAKE A THEFT OF IT.
Have been reading some of the posts on SS and suddenly it hit me...why is there so much turmoil over SS? By the time any of us boomers draw our SS most of us are 65 and then how much longer do we live after that? Why the fuss?? Why the objection by others on here to the whole concept of SS?? Don't get it. That SS check is not a FOREVER thing and after I go to the happy hunting grounds along with my other Boomer Buddies that will be how many more checks that won't be going out and how much more money will be going back into the "budget" if that's what you want to call it. Just seems like a dog chasing its tail..round and round and round and nothing EVER gets settled. Seniors are entitled to be taken care of especially those of us who have worked our entire lives and have never taken one ounce of Government Assistance, Food Stamps or Fuel Assistance. Don't y'all think we deserve whatever small pittance we get??

There's turmoil because SS, as it is currently funded, will go broke somewhere around 2024 to 2033. Sure, the Boomers deserve to get SS, but so do all the generations that will come after. Are you completely unconcerned that your kids and grandkids may never have the luxury of receiving SS when they too are working and paying for it?
I'm don't know what is the correct solution. Perhaps a combination of raising the retirement age again, increasing the percent of SS taxes working people pay and reducing yearly increases for seniors. I do know we need a solultion. Continuing to ignore the problem won't do anything but make it worse and focusing on nobody but yourself won't either.

The government stole the money long ago, that is the problem.

^exactly.
Chase bank has taken 8 months to 'negotiate' with a qualified buyer of a property I have.
LOL. All they are doing is making matters worse.
Really dont trust them on anything. but I guess the OP likes big bank bailouts and doesnt care about people who have paid into SS and DO NOT trust wall st.
if we dont recall history~we are condemned to repeat it, yet again.
I think if SS can never be touched again where it is now would be fine.
Problem is politicians see the money sitting there and can't resist IMO.
The problem today is ever since 2010 the SS Admin has been paying out more then they take in causing them to redeem the IOU's left by Congress which adds to our 1 trillion dollar debt every year and it is only going to increase as more and more people retire.
