I think that theory came from an outdated 1950s mindset and needs to be updated.

It's not on par legally. If she had sex with a student 16 or younger, she could have been charged with sexual assault in addition to the offense she was prosecuted for.

Agree and disagree. 20 years (which she is very unlikely to get, even though the law does technically allow it) is too much. But I do think it should be a crime, just a less serious crime.

I can't possibly fathom any reason why.

Actually it is somewhat feasible. Apparently the sentencing for that felony has been 10 years on average. And I doubt that the average case that would be fitting with this one would also involve 4 students and explicit video and text evidence. But you never know

True but what kind of crazy law makes this punishable by prison? That is right up there with Russia jailing a band for "hooliganism".

Except often times this is an additional charge filed when a teacher is accused of having sex with a student under legal age (17). That probably skews the figures. Also, that may not include situations where the teacher gets probation (which seems to usually be the case when the student is older). It may also include sentences imposed after a probation was revoked.

Just because the voters supported the law doesn't make it just. Florida supported the strict gun law and now a person who shot a warning shot in the air gets 25 years?

These strict no compromise laws are short sighted.

America land of the free yah!

According to the report her and the husband were swingers, I feel no sympathy for the husband in that case. Still, this should never have gone to trial.

..Can I see a link to this report?

If that's the case, then there's really no personal issues whatsoever with the situation, but I understand the job itself having issues.
