Makes no sense. Ease of access and magnitude of information availability should mean that people are getting smarter not dumber. What is going on in this nation?

Some people might say that not knowing the difference between knowledge and intelligence is dumb.

Better communication/technology does not mean that people have gotten any better with critical thinking. People will take the easy way out and just take the positions/views that their family (perhaps) has traditionally taken or what groups they want to believe (regardless of its problems). It's easier that way. They even have the arguments already articulated and all they have to do is regurgitate them to sound somewhat informed.

Because blind party affiliation has becoming more pronounced..... look at these forums for all the non thinking Dems and Reps

Free thinking USED to be a good thing...... now it is becoming increasingly rare as people have allowed the tabloid media to feed them talking points.... again, look at these forums

Read more and watch less tv and people will be more informed

They are not - the internet and other media simply allow you better and easier access to dumb behavior. Every single thing these days is recorded and instantly disseminated for all to see. If you did something dumb thirty years ago, only a few people knew about it. In order for others to know, newspapers, magazines, or TV had to pick up the story and deliver it.

These days if you do or say something dumb, it's recorded by everyone in the room and posted online for just about everybody to see/read.

I think some of it is information overload. There is so much of it, you just don't remember information you read/saw months or a year or two ago.

The one thing that really bothers me is how easy it is to change/revise source information. Just erase it/revise it like it never happened.

We also have the freedom (?) to pick and choose what information we want to believe. The idea that all sides, version, ideas, points are valid and it's up to US to decide. We have tons of info but are very low on actual FACTS that people can agree on. That's a shame.

Priorities change, people change. They are easily distracted from the basic and important things.

Despite having access to much more information nowadays, why are people dumber?

Because they also have access to much more misinformation and many are unable to distinguish between the two.
