Bud was a drug addict. Guess you didn't see that show.
Nope, that would never have been shown. That is why I say it was good entertainment, the problems of the actors was not dragged out and exploited on the TV screen. Now we are awash with all the problems of the people in Hollywood. Look at Lindsey Lohan. No one would even know her name if every time she got in trouble with the law it wasn't splashed all over the TV with these gossip shows.
Yes and many in that majority who went did so because of societal pressure NOT because of true faith.
That is only your opinion. Anyway if true would it matter? Church is a hospital for sinners. Who said only perfect people can go to church? That is just a cop out.

It is not just my opinion. It's a fact that being atheist or at the very least a non-attending person was looked down upon during that era. Do you not understand that the reason people don't go is because they don't BELIEVE? They do not believe in your God. It isn't about perfection, it's about not believing that your God exists. Additionally, many people, like myself, have fundamental issues with the way churches are run and don't believe they accurately represent the word of God. Therefore, we won't support such nonsense by being a member of these places.
It is a cop out to state only imperfect scaredy cats don't attend church.

Especially since many of the Southern churchgoers of the 50s had no qualms about:
The glorification of this era is alarming, at best, insidious at worst.
This thread is about what was on TV in the 50s as opposed to now. That is all. People watch TV to get away from society's problems back then now we have to look at it 24/7 on gossip shows, etc.

What are you talking about. It was the ministers, pastors and priests who were on the front lines in these marches. It was the church goers that were the first to help. Martin Luther King was a minister.

some of them were on the front lines, some were against change or were far too silent.

Really? Then what was all the jibber jabber about religion and prayer in the OP about?

WASHINGTON, DC (CNSNews.com) - On Thanksgiving week in 1954, NBC aired a holiday-themed "Father Knows Best" that ended with the family praying before their meal, including thanking God "for the privilege of living as free men in a country which respects our freedom and our personal rights to worship and think and speak as we choose."
The Nov. 21, 1954 show featured the Anderson family: Jim and Margaret and their three children, Betty, Bud and Kathy.
In the program, the family decided to forgo a Thanksgiving meal because of scheduling conflicts. But in the end, the parents and children decide that sitting down to a Thanksgiving meal together is the best way to celebrate.
