Since actual, factual data shows that gun control does not reduce crime (particularly murder rates), why in the world does anyone advocate gun control? Is this another one of those irrational, emotional repsonses to promote something ineffectual and potentially detrimental out of "fairness"?
Acting irrationally to an outside stimulus is puerile and accomplishes nothing. If one is going to undertake a major endeavor, make sure that the data shows that action produces the desired goal!
If gun control does not work, then why does the NRA have a war on gun science? Tod Tiahrt of Kansas put in a bill that stops the ATF from releasing any information on gun use and violence. If it does not work then why the secrecy? Why is it that after a ban on assault weapons, a real ban not the how it looks ban that the Clinton crime bill did, has there been no mass shootings in Australia? Why is it that Australia had 13 mass shootings in 16 years and after the 1996 ban and gov. buy back has there been none? Me thinks your talking out your ass.

All it shows is that the gun lobby has been extremely successful in neutering all attempts at serious gun control legislation to this point. Say what you will about the NRA, they know exactly what their doing.
Keeping gun control legislation local makes it essentially meaningless. Intranational borders are porous.
