Evidently people love guns, and some think nothing about carrying loaded guns to gun shows where dozens of people can pick up and handle them. The only thing worse than this can be the flu that's going around and people can catch it just by handling something.
Some people don't take gun safety seriously at all, I can tell by all the personal attacks, deflections and casual attitudes towards the handling of firearms in the thread.
The ONLY thing you have achieved is, there are stupid people out there.
There are numerous TV shows which show people doing stupid things all the time.
As has been stated, you CAN'T legislate stupidity.
Means nothing as there is a list of the safest cars which are involved in fatalities.
The most experienced surgeons kill many more people.
The medical profession kills an estimated 100 k people a year.
Car jacks failed and killed more people than at the gun shows. But that is more Darwinian as 'the stupid is as stupid does' usually only kills himself.
Despite watching Disney's 'Fantasia', where buckets, brooms and mops danced around the room, inatimate objects cannot move by themselves...robots can but guns are not robotic.
The problem is going to be too many guns someday. But some people don't see things that way, I do. If anyone has ever heard the argument that too much of something is not good. We're presently a nation overrun with guns, some are in the hands of careless people too. Accidents with guns are unnecessary and avoidable if people get back to the basics of gun safety. Some gun owners have probably never attended a gun safety class in their life, I think that would be a good starting point for having laws written that anyone who wishes to own one, attend mandatory safety classes. You just don't go out and buy one thinking you're going to protect yourself and family with absolutely no training or education about them. People are foolish.
Given that firearms accidents are less prevalent than about 50 other types of accidents, I'd say it's a non issue.
Go ahead and pass laws for each bar on this chart, let me know when you get to guns.
Guns are very safe. You can have a loaded gun next to people and if no one picks it up and pulls the trigger it will never fire in a thousand years. A knife is a very safe thing. If no one picks it up and stabs anyone it would never harm a person in a million years. It will sit there until it rusts away.
Is a car unsafe if you have reckless driver and they cause an accident?
Yes it is. And car drivers are regulated, and controlled and held liable, required to carry insurance of some form. The question is, where did you want to go with this?
